Disney Spirit Day - Wednesday, September 16th
Show your Team Disney school spirit on Wednesday, September 16th! Staff and students are encouraged to wear their favorite Disney Elementary gear as we celebrate what it means to be part of Team Disney!
Throughout the day, we will be reviewing our PBIS STAR expectations and reminding students how we can all work together to make Disney a safe, kind, and positive place to learn.
Don't have Disney spirit wear? No problem! Wear red, black, or white and show your Team Disney pride!
iPad Distribution
iPad distribution has begun. If you have any unpaid fines, please pay them as soon as possible. Please talk with your child about where their "home base" will be to charge the iPad each night. iPads should come to school fully charged each day.
Any student new to Fraser, including Kindergarten students, OR parents who want to change their selection for opting in/out of taking technology home need to complete the District Technology agreement that is linked below.
Please mail Mrs. Bookmiller at Candice.Bookmiller@fraserk12.org if you have any additional questions regarding student iPads.
Canvas Parent Access
All Fraser classroom teachers provide instruction, resources, activities, and assessments to students utilizing the Canvas Learning Management System. As a result, students have continuous access to the course materials and information regarding their achievement.
Parents/Guardians can also have continuous access to their student’s course materials and grades in Canvas by creating a parent/observer account. In addition, parents of multiple students can easily switch between their students to view grades and assignments within the same parent account.
Parents can use Canvas to
Contact their child’s teacher
View grades, due dates, and events
See, and in many cases access, what the child is doing at school
Support an absent student
View classroom and building announcements
And more!
For the first step you will need to have two devices (tablet, laptop, computer or phone) available to be paired. One device will be used to log into your student’s canvas account. The other will be used to create your parent canvas account.
Log into Student Canvas Account on one device
- For parents/guardians of students whom are in young fives through 2nd Grade: A QR code of your students’ username and password will have been sent home. Use your camera function to scan the QR code to access your student’s Canvas Account. If you are having issues with the QR code, contact your teacher or elementary media tech.
- For parents/guardians of students whom are in 3rd-6th Grade: To log in as your student, have your student login to their Canvas account. Your student should know their username and password. If not, contact his or her teacher or your elementary media tech.
Create Parent Account on a second device:
- Open Canvas Parent Login
- Choose need a Canvas Account
- Follow prompts on screen to create account (see below resources for assistance)
6th Grade Safety Squad
A big Team Disney shout-out to our amazing 6th Grade Safety Squad! Our safeties had a fantastic first week demonstrating leadership, responsibility, and kindness while helping to keep our students safe throughout the school day.
From morning arrival and afternoon dismissal to lunch and recess, these students have stepped up to be positive role models and lend a helping hand wherever needed.
A special shout-out to Mrs. McGuffey for her leadership of our Safety Squad! Thank you for organizing, supporting, and guiding our student safeties and making sure everyone is prepared and ready to take on their responsibilities each day.
We are so proud of our 6th graders for stepping up as leaders and helping make Disney a safe and welcoming place for everyone. Way to go, Safety Squad!
Disney PTO Out of This World Fun Run Fundraiser Updates

Funds help provide class shirts for every student, buses for field trips, school enrichment opportunities, classroom activities, special events, and much more!
Our First Competition Winner!
Last week, classes competed to see who could have the highest percentage of students registered in the Fun Hub. Congratulations to Miss Kelly’s Kindergarten class! You earned a popcorn party from the PTO! Way to go!
Our Second Competition Starts Monday!
The class that raises the most money Monday, 9/14, thru Wednesday, 9/16, will earn a PIZZA PARTY! Help your class take the lead by registering in the Fun Hub and sharing your fundraising link with friends and family.

GO TEAM DISNEY!
Extra Clothes
We kindly ask that all students keep an extra set of clothes in their backpack each day. Throughout the school day, students may experience a variety of situations — such as spills, playground mishaps, or other accidents — that require a change of clothes.
Having an extra set of clothes readily available helps your child stay comfortable and minimizes the need for a call home during the day.
Thank you for helping us keep our students comfortable and ready to learn!
Parking Lot Reminders
We all know that the Disney parking lot is stressful and challenging at times. We have a large population of car pickup students all exiting the building at the same time which creates an intense and stressful moment for staff, students, and parents. If we all follow our parking lot procedures and practice patience, we will be able to quickly exit everyone safely.
Below are a few important reminders:
- Please stay as far right as possible when in the car pick-up line so thru traffic utilize the left lane. As a reminder, there is no parking or stopping traffic in the car pick-up line. Drivers MAY NOT get out of the car while in the outside drop-off/ pick-up lane. Your students must exit to the outside of the loop (passenger side of vehicle), and drivers must not exit the car to walk students up or pick them up. If you have younger children who need to be walked up or picked up at the door, you MUST park your car in one of the parking spots..
- Please refrain from parking anywhere other than designated parking spaces, this includes parking in handicapped parking spots unless your handicap parking pass is properly displayed.
- The driveway in the front of the school is for bus parking and exiting traffic only. This is not a drop-off/pick-up zone. Families may not walk through the bus driveway at dismissal.
- Please utilize the crosswalks in our parking lot when walking to parked vehicles
- Please enter the Disney parking lot from the north (turn right into parking lot) and exit to the south (turn right on Kelly) to help assist with traffic flow.
- Please be distraction free - refrain from using cell phones, loud music, or other distracting activities. Pay attention and be on the lookout for people walking through the lots
- Smoking and pets are not permitted on school grounds. Please leave your pets at home for the safety and comfort of all of our students and families.
Thank you for your patience and support in keeping our community safe in our parking lots.
Pets on School Property
For the safety and well-being of our students, staff, and community members, dogs and other pets are not permitted on elementary school property.
This policy is in place for several important reasons:
Student Safety: Even the most well-trained dogs can behave unpredictably around children, especially in busy or noisy environments.
Allergies and Health Concerns: Many students have allergies or sensitivities to animals that can cause discomfort or serious health reactions.
Fear and Anxiety: Some children may be fearful of animals, which can interfere with their sense of safety at school.
Cleanliness: Preventing animals on school grounds helps us maintain a clean and healthy environment for everyone.
We kindly ask for your cooperation in leaving pets at home when visiting school or dropping off and picking up students. Service animals, as defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), are of course welcome.
Red Flag Outside Indicates Indoor Lineup
When the red flag is hung outside our front doors, this means indoor line-up. Students only can enter the building thru the main door (door #1) as well as the back door (door #18) starting at 8:20 AM.
Please utilize the car drop-off line and students will enter in the back of the building (door #18). If your child needs assistance, please park in a parking spot and walk your child to the main entrance (door #1). Student drop off is NOT allowed in the bus loop during indoor lineup.
September is Attendance Awareness Month
Chronic absenteeism is considered a hidden educational crisis in the U.S. According to Attendance Works, research shows that when students are chronically absent (missing 10% or more of the school year or 18 days over an entire school year), they are less likely to read proficiently by third grade, achieve in middle school and graduate from high school.
Children with good attendance (9 or fewer days absent per year) typically:
- Maintain quality friendships
- Are less anxious about school
- Are more confident
- Are higher achieving
- GRADUATE!
- Experience success in the work force and in LIFE!
Throughout this first month of school, strive for your child to have perfect attendance (unless, of course, your child falls ill). Work with your child to set a regular bedtime, develop morning routines that will help set them up for success, develop backup plans for getting to school, and schedule non-emergency appointments and extended vacations when schools not in-session. If your child is feeling anxious/nervous to attend school, reach out to the school for help; it's important students attend school everyday unless they are truly sick.
Remember, all absences count toward chronic absenteeism, even if you call the attendance line or provide documentation. In Fraser, we continue to work hard to decrease chronic absenteeism- which in turn benefits ALL students!
Health Guidance for Attending School
At Disney Elementary, we want to partner with our families to create a safe, healthy, and welcoming environment for all of our students.
Please send your child to school if they are generally healthy and able to participate in their usual day-to-day activities. Avoid keeping children home unless they are truly too sick to engage in learning and school routines.
To support families in making these decisions, we’ve put together a helpful reference chart outlining when to keep your child home and when they can safely return to school for common illnesses.
Thank you for working with us to keep our students and staff healthy and ready to learn!
Daily Attendance
Calling in your child sick, an appointment or vacation? Please call the attendance line at any time of day at 586-439-6490. Utilizing the attendance line will assist our office staff with making sure attendance records are accurate.
Birthday Treats
Birthdays are special celebrations at any age, and we love recognizing our students on their big day! However, due to food allergies, dietary restrictions, and the need to maximize learning time, no food items will be allowed for birthday celebrations.
If students would like to bring something to share, they may bring a small, non-food item (such as stickers, pencils, or erasers). These items will be sent home with students at the end of the day.
Additionally, flowers, balloons, and other similar deliveries for students are not permitted at school.
We will continue to celebrate students’ birthdays in meaningful ways within the classroom to make their day special.
Thank you for helping us keep our learning environment safe, inclusive, and focused!
Outside Food Deliveries
To help us maintain a safe and efficient school environment, we want to remind families of the District’s policy regarding outside food deliveries: Outside food and beverage deliveries are not allowed for students’ breakfast or lunch. This includes: fast food brought in by parents or family members as well as food ordered through delivery services such as DoorDash, Uber Eats, or Grubhub.
All student meals must either be provided through our Fraser Food Service program or be prepared at home and sent with your child. This policy helps us Keep students safe by limiting visitors and unknown deliveries, Reduce office disruptions and avoid added workload for staff during a very busy lunch hour, and supports healthy meal options offered by our district’s Food Service program
If your student forgets their lunch, we will always ensure they receive a school meal so no child goes without lunch. Thank you for your cooperation and for helping us maintain a safe, secure, and supportive environment for all Disney students.
Dress Code Reminders
As a reminder, our dress code is a district policy, which is accessible as part of our Student Code of Conduct. The purpose of our dress code is to make sure that our students are dressed for learning success. Parents will be called to bring a change of clothing when students do not follow the district policy. Below are some of the most pertinent dress code guidelines. The following types of clothing are inappropriate for school and WILL NOT BE ALLOWED :
- Hats, caps, hoods, bandannas, or other head coverings
- See-through clothing or clothing that reveals students’ midriffs, bottoms, or undergarments
- Shorts, skirts and dresses shorter than the tip of the student’s index finger when arms are hanging down.
- Clothes or accessories displaying offensive words and symbols including those related to alcohol, illegal/controlled substances, tobacco products, weapons, sexual references and/or language disruptive to the educational process.
- Beach-type footwear with exposed toes that can be dangerous during recess play. Sandals with heel straps are allowed.
Picture Day - Wednesday, October 7th
This year we will continue to use SchoolPictures.com as our vendor. Picture day is scheduled for Tuesday, October 6th. Order forms will be sent home soon. All students will be photographed. Families wishing to order pictures in advance may do so by visiting the website and using the QR code. Picture retakes will occur on November 16th.
Tribal Affiliation
In Michigan, schools are required to collect certain student information, such as enrollment, demographics, and program participation, and share it with the Michigan Department of Education. This process is required by state and federal law and helps monitor publicly funded education programs.
A new rule in the State School Aid Act now requires schools to also collect information about students’ tribal affiliations. This change was developed with input from Tribal Nations in Michigan.
Starting this school year, families have the option to share tribal affiliation information. Sharing this information is completely voluntary.
The data will help strengthen communication with Tribal Nations and may allow schools to qualify for additional funding to better support Indigenous students.
If a family chooses to share this information, it will be protected under privacy laws such as FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act), which also prohibits discrimination.
If you would like to report your tribal affiliation, please complete the below form by October 7th.
