School Year 26-27 is off to an Excellent start!

OC Families,

Thank you for trusting us with the opportunity to educate, care for, and spend time with your kids. They are precious, and we will do all we can to make school a safe, inclusive, and successful place to be. Our people at Oak Crest are what make us great. We have an incredible staff and families that want the best for their kids.

Thank you for attending conferences, it is an essential part of our process and work to educate your child. you know them best and we need you insight and teamwork.

Day 1 & 2 were incredible. We dealt with heat, lightening, rain, thunder, and a lot of new adventures...but we have conquered them all! We have set the stage for a great year of learning and a culture of kindness and togetherness.

Have a great, long weekend. We will keep growing together on Tuesday! (No School on Monday 9/7).

Be RED!!

Ben

Student/Family handbook.

Our handbook contains vital information about our school day, systems, and expectations. Please make sure you have access to this document and refer here first when you have questions.

PreK-6 BP Student and Family Handbook

Daily Schedule

Daily Schedule Reminders
  • Drop Off Before School (including walkers) - 7:50-8:10am
  • First Bell/Morning Music - 8:10am
  • Second Bell / In Class - 8:15am
  • Dismissal - White Route & parent pick-up 3:05pm
  • Dismissal - Red Route, Walkers, After School Activities - 3:10pm

Transportation

Transportation is the biggest challenge in our day to start the year. Help us by doing the following things.

  • Talk to your kid everyday about how they are getting home.
  • Email (or call) both the school office and teacher when an end of day plan changes. After 2:40pm, the message may not get through, so be early in those decisions please.
  • We will not allow a kid to change end of day plans without direct permission from a parent or guardian.
  • We partner with 4.0 Bus Company, but they are not managed by the school district. Specific questions about routes, times, locations, or bus issues should be directed to 4.0 Bus Company (952-873-2411).

Ready to Learn

We need kids ready to learn each day to fulfill their potential and to make school a good place for others to learn.

Have students physically ready:

  • Breakfast, Sleep, Healthy Snack 7 Lunch
    • We do not allow caffeine beverages, junk food, gum, or fast food lunches.
  • Water bottles are encouraged.
    • Some teachers ask to have them kept at lockers, but they are especially helpful on recess days that feel like 90+ degrees!

Have students mentally ready:

  • Talk to your child about school. Stay positive and encouraging about staff and other students. your mindset and positive attitude will impact theirs
    • Make it a point to ask about school everyday and focus on the positives and celenrations, even if you have to dig to get them!

Attendance.

Students are expected in school everyday of the year. Attendance is the #1 predictor os school success. Please refer to our school handbook for questions about attendance and what absences are excused.

*If your child is going to miss school, please call the office (952-873-2402) or email ocattendance@belleplaine.k12.mn.us

Technology

We will continue to have student iPads for all kids to enhance learning opportunities. This year, we will not send them home unless there is specific homework or learning to occur. If we are sending home iPads, teachers will communicate the plan and desired outcome. Please help us keep these iPads a learning tool and not an entertainment device. Please reach out directly to your child's teacher if you do not want iPads coming home at all.

Parent Survey Opportunity

I am interested in parent feedback about the things we do at Oak Crest. The more people I here from, the better picture I have of the success of our school. At conferences, I tried to offer a survey to parents, but there were technical issues and I would love more voices. Please consider answering this short survey to help our school continue to improve!
