Hawthorne Brook Happenings
You belong here.
Dear Hawthorne Brook Families,
What a week! Teachers officially returned on Monday (though nearly everyone was here in the weeks leading up to school) and students started on Wednesday. It has been a whirlwind of a first week and your children have done a wonderful job transitioning back to school. As I have walked through the school, students have been engaging in all sorts of beginning-of-the-year activities. (Keep your eyes peeled for pics of the first STEM project of the year- coming Monday to our socials!) Students transitioned nicely to new lunch procedures and did a phenomenal job at our first fire drill of the year.
I hope the weekend gives you and your children a chance to recover from the transition back to school!
Warmly,
Chantele Olmstead & Jason White
New Updates
From the Health Office
For students who have daily medication or emergency medication at school: Please bring in the medication as soon as possible. Medication must be brought in by an adult and requires new MD orders each school year.
Over The Counter (OTC) medication forms went home on the first day of school. This gives the nurse permission to administer Tylenol, Ibuprofen, creams, cough drops, etc. The nurse is limited to 10 doses of Tylenol or Ibuprofen per school year. A doctor’s order will be needed in order for the nurse to administer > 10 doses.
Please return emergency cards as soon as possible. Make sure they are complete so that we know who has permission to dismiss your child.

Screenings will be performed in school this fall. Parents may opt their child out in writing. Please refer here for more information.

Cell Phones
School Committee updated the district cell phone policy, in accordance with a law that is making its way through the Massachusetts legislature. Cell phones/smartwatches/smartglasses are to be off and away for the day. Any student found with a personal device will have the device turned in to the main office. If this happens more than once, families will be asked to pick up the devices. The full text of the policy can be found here.
Help Wanted!
We are still looking to hire a lunch/recess monitor. If you are interested, or know someone who is, please have them apply to this job posting. It is a great job for someone who may want to work a couple of hours a day, but be home for their children after school!
