Tēnā koutou e te whānau,

The refurbishment of our front classrooms — Pahitaua, Ōwhataiti, and Kawarehe continues. It is exciting to see these spaces being transformed, alongside the surfacing of the basketball court and the back carpark. We are looking forward to having these spaces returned to us, which will help ease congestion at the front of the kura.

Many thanks to the resilient and positive kaiako and tamariki, who have adapted so well throughout the process.

Recently, Whaea Del, Whaea Te Rumate, and Mrs Te Pou had the opportunity to travel to Perth to visit schools using Explicit Teaching approaches. This visit gave us the chance to see strong engagement and learning routines in action, and to observe experts demonstrating the teaching practices and skills shared during our recent Teacher Only Day.

Meanwhile, at school, our kaiako have been working hard to embed engagement norms and routines into their classroom timetables. These routines help create calm, focused, and predictable learning environments so tamariki can spend more time learning and less time wondering what to do next.

How can parents help? One of the best ways is by making sure tamariki are at kura every day and arrive ready to learn. Asking your tamaiti about classroom routines, learning goals, and what they are practising at school also helps strengthen learning at home. When tamariki experience consistent messages and routines between home and kura, they are more confident and successful learners.

We are excited to continue our journey of learning and embedding these new ways of teaching across the kura. We encourage you to ask your tamariki what they notice is different in their classrooms, and we warmly welcome whānau to come in and see the changes for yourselves.

We believe these approaches will help our tamariki learn more effectively, make the best use of learning time, and support the way their brains naturally learn best. Make sure your tamaiti is at kura every day to “catch” the learning.

Ngā mihi nui,

Erin Te Pou

Our two Taiao members were out seeking a winning class for last week. We discussed together how the kaupapa of parakore is faring in TKOTP. A bit of a challenge this week with ice block treats schoolwide and belongings/clothing/shoes. The outcome was unanimously agreed upon: Congratulation's to Whaea Edna, Matua Eru and Te Karaka. Thanks to Ivy Heilz and Kauri for the help today.
