Year of the Book Coming to ECS!

Dear Families and Caregivers,

We are thrilled to share some exciting news—our school has been awarded the Year of the Book Grant from the Children’s Literacy Foundation (CLiF) for 2026-27!

This incredible opportunity brings over $25,000 worth of literacy programs, author/illustrator visits, family/caregiver events, and brand-new books to our school over the next two years. The goal is to build a strong culture of literacy, involve families, support our teachers, connect with our public library, and most of all—to inspire a love of reading and writing in every student.

We will be kicking off this event on Friday, September 18th! Author Christy Mihaly will be visiting our school to help us launch the Year of the Book, and every student will get to select a brand-new book to take home. This book is theirs to keep!

We hope you’ll be able to join us for this event! From 8:45 to 9:30, kindergarten through 3rd grade students will be at the kickoff event with author Christy Mihaly. Fourth through sixth grade students will participate from 10:15 - 11:00. Our morning OK students will attend from 9:40 to 10:00. Our author is not here in the afternoon, we so will be making other very special arrangements for our afternoon preschoolers.

What’s To Come:

  • Free books! Every student will receive eight books to take home across the school year.

  • Author and illustrator visits through the year to spark creativity and excitement.

  • A Family Literacy Event with a special guest presenter, food, and book giveaway.

  • Mini-grants to support creative literacy projects in classrooms.

  • New books for our classrooms, school library, and public library too (check them out!).

  • Stronger connections with Lanpher Memorial Library, including a visit from the local librarian, Amy Olsen.

We’re so grateful for this opportunity and can’t wait to share all the upcoming events and book giveaways with you. Thank you for being part of our reading journey—your support at home makes a big difference!

Happy reading,

Erin Neckers

Librarian and Year of the Book Coordinator

Open House is Oct. 1!

Open House is scheduled for Thursday, October 1, from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Please mark your calendars! Open House is a great opportunity to meet your child's teachers, see the classroom, and visit the many learning locations that your child uses throughout the school, such as the gym, library, art and music rooms, as well as meet the many non-classroom adults that support your child throughout the week. We look forward to seeing you on the evening of October 1.
