Rhythm & Rhyme Classes at KJ DANCE
Fall Classes begin August 17th
Welcome Rhythm and Rhyme Dancers,
Rhythm & Rhyme I
Our Rhythm & Rhyme I class is the perfect introduction to the world of dance! This 45-minute class introduces young dancers to the basics of Ballet and Tap through imaginative movement, music, games, and fun props. Dancers begin exploring basic dance positions while developing coordination, balance, listening skills, independence, and positive classroom behavior in a nurturing environment.
Performance: Rhythm & Rhyme I dancers will perform in our In-House Recital at KJ Plano in May.
Rhythm & Rhyme II
Rhythm & Rhyme II is a 45-minute Ballet and Tap class that builds on the foundation established in Rhythm & Rhyme I. Through creative play, music, and storytelling, dancers continue developing beginning dance technique, coordination, rhythm, confidence, listening skills, independence, and respectful classroom behavior—all while having fun with their friends!
Performance: Rhythm & Rhyme II dancers will perform in our In-House Recital at KJ Plano in May.
What should my dancer wear to class each week?
Rhythm & Rhyme dancers should wear:
- Pink tights
- Any color leotard (with or without a tutu or skirt—either is perfect!)
- Hair in a bun or securely pulled away from the face
Please have your dancer bring both their black tap shoes and pink ballet shoes in their dance bag each week, and arrive wearing their street shoes.
Before Class
Rhythm & Rhyme classes begin with Tap, so once you've arrived inside the studio, please help your dancer put on their tap shoes before class begins. Dancers should bring their ballet shoes inside their dance bag, as they will change into them during class when it's time for Ballet.
Thank you for helping us make the transition into class smooth and successful each week!
What if my dancer has trouble walking into class the first few weeks of class?
At KJ Dance, we understand that our youngest dancers sometimes need a little time to adjust to a new environment. It is completely normal for children to take a few weeks to feel safe, build trust with their teacher, and gain the confidence to fully participate in class.
Our Rhythm & Rhyme teachers have years of experience working with young dancers and are committed to making every child feel welcomed, encouraged, and loved. We will meet your dancer where they are, celebrate every small victory, and gently help them grow each week.
If your dancer is a little hesitant during those first few classes, we simply ask that you give them time. In our 34 years of teaching, we have seen countless shy, nervous little dancers blossom into confident performers. Watching that transformation is one of the greatest joys of what we do!
Thank you for trusting us with your most precious little ones. It is truly an honor to be part of their dance journey, and we are so grateful you have chosen to be part of the #THEKJWAY family.
Are parents allowed inside the dance room/studio?
To help create a consistent, focused, and comfortable learning environment, parents are not permitted inside the dance studio during class.
The good news is that every KJ Dance studio has large viewing windows, so you're welcome to watch your dancer throughout class!
We kindly ask that all parents remain in the hallway before, during, and after class. This helps us provide a safe, structured, and distraction-free environment where every dancer can learn, grow, and gain confidence.
Thank you for helping us create the best possible experience for all of our dancers!
Can my dancer bring a friend to class?
Absolutely! Dance is always more fun with friends, and we'd love for your dancer to invite a buddy to join them!
Friends can always try a class for FREE! They will simply create an account at kjdance.com, add their dancer, and select the Drop-In class they'd like to attend. Our faculty will be notified of the trial and will be ready to welcome them.
If your friend loves class, they can easily enroll online or contact our office for assistance. We can't wait to welcome them to the #THEKJWAY family!
What if my dancer misses a class?
No worries! We would love for your dancer to make up any missed class in another Combo class. To schedule a makeup class, simply log in to your Studio Director account, select "Makeup Class," and choose another Combo class that works best for your family's schedule. We look forward to seeing your dancer back in the studio soon!
Will my dancer perform at the end of the year?
Our Rhythm & Rhyme dancers will celebrate their season by performing in our special In-House Recital at KJ Plano each May.
While our Combo dancers and older perform in the annual KJ End-of-Year Concert at the Performing Arts Center, we have found over the past 34 years that our youngest dancers are most successful in a smaller, more intimate performance setting. This allows them to feel comfortable, confident, and excited as they take the stage for family and friends.
Our In-House Recital is one of the sweetest events of the year! Families will enjoy watching their little dancers perform, followed by a special awards presentation celebrating each child's accomplishments. After the recital, everyone is invited to stay for a reception with friends, family, teachers, and fellow dancers.
These precious first performances create memories that last a lifetime, and we can't wait to celebrate this special milestone with your family!
