Principal's Notes
Dear Welty Familia,
You know how Shrek says, “Ogres are like onions, they’ve got layers”? Well, school success is the same way. Each day you show up is like adding another layer—of learning, friendship, and growth—until you’ve built something amazing. 🧅✨
At Mary Welty School, being present in class is the first step to reaching your “happily ever after.” When students are here, they’re part of the adventure: learning new things, making friends, discovering what makes them shine. It’s not always easy—sometimes it feels like a long trek through the swamp—but every day at school takes us one step closer to our big dreams.
So let’s stick together, like Donkey and Shrek, and make a commitment to show up every day. With determined students and supportive families, we can prove that nothing is too “far, far away” for us to reach.
Now, let’s roar loud and proud—because Welty kids are ready to shine brighter than any fairy-tale ending! We're doing our BEST to be the BEST!!🌟
Warm regards,
Mariebeth Silva
Principal, Mary Welty

🧇🧅➕ Waffles, Onions, and Math Facts—Oh My! ✨📚
Donkey would say, “We can stay up late, swap manly stories, and in the morning… I’m making waffles!”
🧇 Well, math fact fluency is kind of like those waffles—it’s the good stuff that gives students the energy they need to take on the big, swamp-sized challenges ahead.
Just like Shrek needs his layers of onion power to get through an adventure, our students need strong math facts to handle trickier problems. When they’ve got their facts down, their brains are free to focus on the bigger quests—like multi-step word problems and solving equations. It’s like having Donkey at your side, always ready to cheer you on! 🐴✨
So grab your torches, shields, and swamp boots—it’s time for a math adventure!
Because math at Welty? It’s not just work—it’s an ogre-sized adventure! 🧅💪

Attendance
📚 Why School Attendance is Important for Elementary Students
-
✅ Builds Strong Learning Habits – Attending school every day helps children develop responsibility, consistency, and routines.
-
📖 Supports Academic Success – Students who attend regularly keep up with lessons and perform better on tests and assignments.
-
⏳ Prevents Falling Behind – Each lesson builds on the last, and missing school makes it harder to catch up.
-
🤝 Encourages Social Growth – Regular attendance helps children build friendships and practice teamwork.
-
🌟 Strengthens Confidence – Being present helps students feel included, capable, and connected to their class..
-
🚀 Sets the Foundation for the Future – Good attendance now creates habits that lead to success in middle school, high school, and beyond.
