Springing Forward
EIRS Spotlight: Ready, Set, Regulate!
Spring reminds us that children bloom when we shine a light on their strengths.
Social-Emotional Learning Spotlight
Supporting the Zones of Regulation at Home
The Zones of Regulation connects to the social and emotional competencies of CARES that are taught in all of the district elementary schools. Students are learning how to recognize their feelings and choose tools to help manage them. The zones explicitly tie-in to self-control and helps children describe both their feelings and energy levels.
Blue Zone: sad, tired, sick, or bored (low energy)
Green Zone: calm, happy, focused (just right energy for learning)
Yellow Zone: worried, silly, frustrated, or surprised (energy is higher, emotions are growing)
Red Zone: angry, afraid, or out of control (very high energy, intense emotions)
Feelings come in different sizes and energy levels, and all zones are normal. The goal is to notice how we feel and choose tools to help regulate our bodies when needed in order to keep learning throughout he day.
Tools to Try:
Blue Zone: Move your body and try jumping jacks
Green Zone: Keep using strategies that help you stay calm and focused
Yellow Zone: Pause and take slow, deep breaths
Red Zone: Take a break in a quiet, comfortable space to cool down
Using this language at home helps children build self-awareness, manage big feelings, and stay ready to learn.
