Message from the Principal
Dear Families,
We want to tell you about a very exciting program that will be starting in our school this year. We are about to embark on a partnership with an animal assisted therapy group called PAWS for People. PAWS (Pet Assisted Visitation Volunteer Services) for People is a group of volunteers who bring their specially trained therapy dogs, cats or bunnies to libraries, schools, hospitals and elder care facilities.
Mrs. Munson, our special education coordinator, and her certified therapy companion, Nellie, have undergone a great deal of training and screening to ensure good temperament, behavior, and obedience. This is an exciting experience for our students and school community. Mrs. Munson plans to bring Nellie with her to Pleasantville once a week during our school year. They hope to provide some one-on-one, calming experiences and classroom visits.
Studies show that pet therapy lowers the heart rate, increases the release of calming hormones, and decreases anxiety. We look forward to forging a special bond with our PAWS therapy team with our first visit soon.
Please feel free to call or e-mail me with any questions or concerns.
With Polar Pride,
Mrs. Nowell

This week's Exploratory Rotation Schedule
First 5-Day Week!
Our first 5-day week is in the books. Our newest kindergarten polar bears have been hard at work learning PLV routines. Keep up the great work!
PLV Band & Chorus
Ms. Johnson is out this week so there will be no chorus or band.

Homework Reminder
Reminder that every student came home with a September reading log to read 20 minutes a night. Don’t forget to turn reading logs into your teacher on Tuesday. We will choose 25 PLV students to receive a prize for completing their reading log. Keep on reading!
Classroom Celebrations and Snack Order Info
We have had questions about birthday celebrations and ordering snacks for classrooms. Please find the links below for information about the district outside food policy and ordering classroom celebration snacks. Please be advised that the nutrition department requires orders 10 days in advance. No outside food is permitted.
Dismissal Changes & Reminders
Dismissal changes must be communicated to your child's teacher and Ms. Jaimie in the front office BEFORE 3:00pm. This buffer gives our office staff and teachers enough time to safely route your child to the correct location without any last-minute confusion. Clear communication before 3:00 PM prevents chaotic handoffs at the end of the day and guarantees that every student gets home safely.
Parents in the car line for either arrival or dismissal need to stay in their cars. Staff will signal for students to exit their cars as we do not want students getting out/getting in their cars while cars are still pulling into the line.
Volunteers
All volunteers will need to be on the district approved volunteer list. Volunteers are an integral part of our success and our belief that together we are stronger as a district. Please complete the volunteer application and submit all the information requested. All personal data submitted by applicants is confidential. Including a personal email address in your application will ensure you are informed once your application is approved. As part of standard school safety practices, all volunteers and visitors to CSD schools must provide a photo ID each time they visit any District facility.
This is required for parents/guardians volunteering in the classrooms, visiting for lunch, chaperoning field trips, etc.
