From the Senior Leadership Team – Term 2, Week 3
Kia Ora
It’s hard to believe we’re already three weeks into the new term. Classes have settled back into their learning, and it’s always a pleasure to visit classrooms and see the work our learners are doing. One noticeable improvement from this time last year has been attendance. Getting your children to school every day makes a significant difference to both their learning and their social interactions, and parents' efforts have been amazing. Let’s work together to keep this up.
As we head further into Term 2, the weather will also start to play a part, and it’s already getting cooler. Please ensure your children come to school with shoes and socks, warm jackets and their TNIS hoodie or jersey. This helps keep our learners healthy and able to attend school as much as possible during the colder weather.
The school has never looked better, and we’re still renovating several areas. The most significant change is the one we don’t often see, namely, our roof. The entire roof has been removed and replaced, helping eliminate any leaks. Additionally, the last bathroom is being renovated, meaning all external toilets have been upgraded.
If you’ve been checking our social media lately, you’ll have seen the ‘Play It Forward’ Assembly, where we welcomed back George, Reuben and Zac, along with the Headmaster of Westlake Boys High School. These learners won the Year 8 Exhibition award in 2025 for their Play It Forward initiative, which raised $1200 to ensure learners at TNIS have opportunities to participate in sports. This week, we presented a cheque to Play It Forward, which includes funds raised through Market Day in Term 1.
We are incredibly proud of the actions these three boys have taken and the legacy they have created. We look forward to this fund growing in the future. If you would like to contribute to this fund supporting TNIS learners, please do so via Kindo.
Finally, a thank you to our school community, parents, caregivers and staff. The term has started well; let’s all work together to ensure it continues to run smoothly.

SCHOOL NEWS AND INFORMATION
WELLBEING AT TNIS
Wellbing at TNIS is an important part of the school experience. This extends to our Whānau as well. In every newsletter we will have wellbing ideas and things you can do at home.
To catch up on all of our Wellbeing posts, please read here.
Health Room Update
Our Health Room is available to provide short-term care and basic first aid during the school day. We are currently experiencing a high number of visits for follow-up and ongoing care, which we are not resourced to provide.
To ensure the Health Room remains available for learners who require immediate attention, please take a moment to review the information below with your child so they understand its purpose and appropriate use.
What the Health Room is for:
Treating minor injuries such as cuts, grazes, bumps, or nosebleeds
Providing basic first aid (e.g. bandages, ice packs, cleaning wounds)
Supporting students who feel unwell (e.g. headaches, nausea, fever, period pain) for a short period of rest
Assessing more serious injuries or illness and contacting caregivers or emergency services if required
Administering prescribed medication (with appropriate permission)
Supporting existing care plans (e.g. asthma, allergies, diabetes)
What the Health Room is not intended for:
Ongoing or repeated treatment (e.g. regular strapping for sprains)
Re-dressing injuries that have occurred at home or on previous days
Rehabilitation or continued medical support
Long-term supervision while awaiting collection
Once you have been contacted to collect your child, we are unable to supervise them for extended periods while you continue working. A travel time of up to one hour is considered reasonable. If you are unable to arrive within this timeframe, please arrange for an alternative adult to collect your child.
Thank you for your support in ensuring the Health Room remains available for learners who need urgent care.
ICAS 2026
ICAS is an online academic competition that gives students the opportunity to challenge their higher order thinking and problem-solving skills. TNIS will host 3 subjects in 2026: English, Mathematics and Science.
ICAS results are in-depth and meaningful, and ICAS evaluates student performance against other competition entrants across the state and nation. The data reveals student strengths and weaknesses and can help you recognise and support your child's academic journey.
Learn more about ICAS here: (icasassessments.com/products-icas/).
The Assessments Calendar with dates of purchase and the windows in which the text is sat can be found HERE.
These are purchased by parents directly through THIS LINK. If asked for our school PPS code it is: IEH393
