A Note From Dr. Paulsen
Happy October, Westbrook Park Families!
A lot has been happening at Westbrook Park this month, and we are excited to share some of the wonderful things taking place in our school! Our students continue to show growth, kindness, and responsibility, and we appreciate the ongoing support of our families in making Westbrook Park a positive place to learn and grow.
Character Trait of the Month: Trustworthy
Our character trait for October is trustworthy! We are encouraging students to demonstrate honesty, dependability, and responsibility in their daily interactions with others. On Friday, October 23rd, we will hold our PBIS assembly and recognize one student from each class who has exemplified trustworthiness. We look forward to celebrating these outstanding students!
PBIS Updates & Celebrations
We are continuing to reinforce our schoolwide expectations: Be Safe, Be Respectful, and Be Responsible. It has been wonderful to see students demonstrating these expectations throughout the school day!
5th Grade Safeties: We have officially started our 5th Grade Safety program! Our student safeties help support younger students during arrival and dismissal. We are proud of these students for stepping into leadership roles and helping keep our school safe.
Golden Spatula Award: This award has officially begun! Each week, we recognize the cafeteria table that does the best job demonstrating appropriate cafeteria behavior and keeping its area clean. We are excited to see which table earns the Golden Spatula each week!
Royal Ticket Raffle: Every Friday, students who have earned a Royal Ticket have their names entered into a raffle for a chance to win a prize. This is another fun way to recognize students for making positive choices and following our schoolwide expectations.
Surprise Attendance Day
In September, we celebrated our students with a Surprise Attendance Day! Every student who came to school had the opportunity to throw a water balloon at Mrs. Bush or Dr. Paulsen. It was a fun way to celebrate the importance of showing up and being ready to learn!
We recognize that getting students to school each day takes teamwork and dedication from the entire family. Thank you for all you do to support your child's attendance! We look forward to hosting more Surprise Attendance Days throughout the school year, so keep encouraging your child to come to school every day!

Thank You, Westbrook Park Families!
As we move through October, we want to thank our families for their continued partnership and support. Together, we are building a school community where students feel safe, supported, and encouraged to do their best every day.
We are proud of the progress our students are making academically, socially, and emotionally, and we look forward to all the wonderful things still to come this school year.
Have a wonderful October, and remember to Be Safe, Be Respectful, and Be Responsible!
Counselor's Corner 🎀
What an exciting month we've had at Westbrook Park! Our guidance lessons have officially launched in every classroom, and students are already diving into important topics like growth mindset, setting and achieving goals, managing emotions, and building the habits that lead to success. In the coming weeks, students will have the chance to join Lunch Bunch with Ms. Vollmer, a special program where small groups of students enjoy lunch together while practicing social skills, learning coping strategies, and participating in fun friendship building activities.
September also brought our first PBIS assembly, where we reviewed the Westbrook Ways and introduced our first character trait for the year: trustworthiness. We're excited to announce that at our October PBIS assembly, we'll recognize one Royal Westbrook Winner from each classroom; a student who has truly embodied trustworthiness and made our school community shine.
Additionally, our first Surprise Attendance Day in September was a huge hit! Every student who came to school that day earned the privilege of throwing a water balloon at our principals. We can't wait to host our next Surprise Attendance Day soon! As we move forward, we want to remind families that regular attendance is so important to student success, and we're grateful for your partnership in getting students to school every day. Of course, we completely understand when students need to stay home due to illness, family emergencies, or special events, just please let us know by sending a note or email to wpes-attendance@upperdarbysd.org. We look forward to celebrating our students' growth and positive choices throughout the year!

Gym
Students are participating in a self-assessment that allows them to display their efforts and achievement in PE. To hit the "WOW" poster, students must complete my daily objective and follow all of my PE rules (Safe, Respectful, and Responsible behaviors in PE). To earn the "Good Job", students must follow all the PE rules. Students hit "Keep on trying" if reminders were needed. "Needs more effort" is hit if students missed PE class for any reason.

Music
October has been filled with a lot of exciting events in music. 4th and 5th grade has gotten off to an excellent start in chorus, and they are looking forward to the winter concert coming up. Speaking of the winter concert, there is a date change to Tuesday, December 8th at 7PM at Westbrook Park. 1st and 2nd grades have been doing some work with showcase music, and they are having a blast so far with songs like "Take Me Home, Country Roads" (1st grade) and "The Phantom of the Opera" (2nd grade). 3rd grade has now learned three notes on the recorders and will be learning their last one soon before we get to learning some tunes. We are looking forward to continuing to work hard and cannot wait to put out some outstanding performances.
