A Message from Superintendent Keith Ahearn A Message from Superintendent Keith Ahearn

We are off to a great start of the 2026-2027 school year. The first few weeks of the school year are always filled with excitement, new goals, and new opportunities. Students and staff have settled into the routines that drive teaching and learning.

One of my favorite parts of the job is getting into classrooms. Report card results, benchmarking data, and meetings can tell us some things about how we are doing, but they don’t tell the whole story. To understand what is happening in our schools, you have to see it.

You have to walk into a classroom and see a teacher connect with a struggling student. You have to see students take ownership of their learning and collaborate to solve difficult problems. You have to hear the laughter in the hallways, see relationships being built, and watch the many small moments that happen every day across our district.

I make visiting classrooms a priority because each visit deepens my understanding of what our students and teachers need and reminds me why our work matters. There is a lot to be proud of in Fairview Park City Schools, and some of the best evidence for that pride will never appear on a report card.

While we have much to celebrate, our commitment to continuous improvement means never being satisfied with where we are today and always looking for ways to serve our students and their families better.

Thank you for your continued support of the Fairview Park City Schools.

Regards,

Keith Ahearn

While students and teachers are away from the classroom, many think summer is a quiet time in and around a school building.

This summer, however, things in and around the Fairview Park City Schools were anything but quiet, as the district completed several projects to ensure a successful start to the school year.

When the school year ends, district custodial and maintenance crews gear up for extensive work in the buildings. Each summer, Fairview Park custodial and maintenance staff prepare approximately 273,000 square feet of district facilities. Crews empty classrooms, clean them, and complete painting and repairs, all before staff and students return in August.

For students at Lewis F. Mayer Middle School, the events of Sept. 11, 2001, belong to a history they never experienced firsthand.

But 25 years later, the lessons they see in that history remain relevant.

During the week of September 11, 2026, students at Mayer Middle School spent time remembering and honoring the tragic events 25 years ago through discussions, classroom assignments, and a special recognition at the building.

For one weekend each fall, generations of Fairview Warriors come together to celebrate the school and traditions they share.

Homecoming 2026 will bring the Fairview school community together Sept. 24-26 for a weekend of traditions, recognition, school spirit, and opportunities to reconnect.

“It is about much more than a football game or a dance,” FHS Principal Chris Vicha said. “I think what makes Homecoming truly special is the sense of belonging and pride that comes with it. You see current students, staff, families, and alumni all coming together and celebrating what it means to be part of Fairview.”

From championship athletic performances to distinguished careers in the arts, military, education, and public service, the 2026 Fairview High School Alumni Hall of Fame induction class represents decades of Warriors achievement on and beyond campus.

The Alumni Hall of Fame’s tenth induction ceremony will take place on Thursday, Sept. 24, at 6 p.m. in the Frank W. Barr Auditorium at Fairview High School. The event kicks off a special Homecoming weekend at the school.

This year's class includes five inductees in the Athletic Hall of Fame, four inductees into the Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame, and three inductees into the Faculty Hall of Fame. Two FHS athletic teams will also be inducted into the Hall of Fame after earning the Legacy Award.

More than six decades after Richard L. “Dick” Segrist established a swimming program at Fairview High School, the program he built and the values behind it continue to endure.

On Friday, Sept. 25, at 3:30 PM, the City of Fairview Park will officially name the competition pool at the Gemini Center the Richard L. Segrist Natatorium, recognizing the longtime Fairview High School coach, educator, and mentor.

Segrist, who died in 2023 at age 89, spent 30 years at Fairview High School, from 1959 until his retirement in 1989. A Miami University graduate and former collegiate swimmer, Segrist began his aquatics career teaching swimming with the American Red Cross at Baldwin Wallace College.

Fairview Superintendent Lewis F. Mayer recruited Segrist to Fairview in 1959 as a mathematics teacher and to help develop an aquatics program for the schools and community. He later taught physical education and coached football, track and field, and golf at FHS.
