HISD: In Review

A Message from your Superintendent

This week is a great reminder of what being Drug Free really means.

We encourage EVERYONE to eat healthy, exercise daily, participate in positive social interactions, care for others, limit screen time and applications that negatively influence our thinking, and not to take substances that alter behavior.

The HISD school staff work diligently on teaching students how to make positive decisions but we desperately need your assistance. The seemingly innocent game or YouTube videos that our students are witnessing while idly scrolling through internet introduce extremely negative ideas to which our students do not understand. When our students repeat those violent vocabulary words or mimic the behavior presented in a violent game, we have to provide disciplinary measures to which they may not fully understand.

Also, we learn on a weekly basis how our own students are interacting with a "friend" on their video game with whom they have never met who is encouraging self harm. This is the reality of what is happening on the web and while we have filters at school, we need filters to be implemented at home. We do not allow cell phones at school, and need parents/guardians assistance in monitoring the time and sites your children are viewing when they are with you.

We truly thank you for being a partner in keeping our HISD scholars safe and healthy! Do you need technology assistance or guidance to provide boundaries- we can help! Please email me at cfiaschetti@huntingtonisd.com and we will have technology support available.

Thank you and have a blessed week,

Dr. Carolyn Fiaschetti
