CMS Families,

As the end of the year approaches please partner with our staff by reminding our Colts of our school expectations:

• Dress Code--as the weather warms please make sure your child is in dress code. Shorts are required to be PAST the knuckles naturally when standing.
• Dress Code--School IDs are required to be worn and visible every day in GCISD. Students without an ID will be sent to the office and charge $5 for a replacement.
• Cell Phones/Headphones--Cell phones are only allowed to be used during the lunch period. Airpods and headphones should not be worn in class or during passing period.
• Horseplay/Putting Hands on Each Other--Horseplay or putting your hands on another student will not be tolerated. Horseplay has led to fights, destruction of property, and injuries. Intent does not matter.
• Vandalism/Viral Trends--We have seen an increase in vandalism to our bathrooms and school furniture, usually the result of a current TikTok or viral trend. Consequences will be severe and damages charged.

We have incredible students at CMS, please remind them what it means to have COLT PRIDE: Perseverance, Respect, Integrity, Discipline, & Excellence! I am so proud of all that we have accomplished this year, let's finish the year strong!

Registering your student for the 2025-2026 school year before May 16. The earlier you register, the better we can plan as campuses are staffed based on registration numbers. Registering now helps GCISD avoid last-minute hiring or staff relocations when the school year begins.

• Returning students: Register via Skyward Family Access

• New families: Request a Skyward Family Access account first

• Pre-K: Complete the pre-K online application first

• New siblings: Log in to Skyward Family Access and add a new student by selecting the “New Student Online Enrollment” tab.

• Wednesday, April 9: Grades 6-8 Reading STAAR

• Thursday, April 17: Grade 8 Social Studies STAAR

• Tuesday, April 22: Grade 8 Science STAAR and Biology EOC (Note: Accelerated 7th Grade Science students will also test on this date)

• Tuesday, April 29: Grade 6-8 STAAR and Algebra EOC

STAAR Makeup Dates

• Friday, April 11: Grades 6-8 Reading STAAR Makeup

• Wednesday, April 23: Grade 8 Social Studies STAAR

• Wednesday, April 23: Grade 8 Science STAAR and Biology EOC (Note: Accelerated 7th Grade Science students will also test on this date)

• Wednesday, April 30: Grade 6-8 STAAR and Algebra EOC

Important note: CMS is a closed campus during STAAR testing and STAAR makeup testing dates. Please do not drop off lunches or make other visits to the campus on these dates.

This is the bell schedule for the Reading and Math STAAR assessment dates, as all students will be taking an exam. For STAAR Science and Social Studies, the bell schedule will continue as normal.

Online Practice Tools

To prepare for these online assessments, students have had the opportunity to practice the online tools for STAAR testing.

Students can also practice the online tools at home using the practice testing site. These are the same online tools students used last year for STAAR testing. To practice at home on this site, see instructions HERE.

Other Important Information

• It is very important that students bring their charged GCISD-issued device and charger in order to access the secure testing app and successfully login to take the assessments. Information about how to replace a missing charger can be found HERE.

• Please help us remind students with oral accommodations to bring their headphones.

• Students may bring bottled water and a small, quiet snack to have on testing days.

Auditions for the CMS Stars dance team are April 29 - May 1

All students interested in auditioning must attend a mandatory meeting with a guardian Monday April 14 at 6:30 p.m. in the CMS cafeteria.

SPRING FLING - FRIDAY, APRIL 25TH
Join us for an afternoon of fun! The Spring Fling is Friday, April 25th 3:30pm-5:30 p.m. Purchase your students’ all-inclusive wristband today! Wristbands will also be sold during lunches on April 23rd, 24th, 25th. Wristbands will be handed out at lunch on Friday, April 25th so they are not misplaced.
Wristbands include: Unlimited inflatable games, 1 slice of pizza , 1 drink , 1 candy
Any additional concessions will be $1-$2 each. Cash or Card accepted.

STAFF APPRECIATION WEEK
Our favorite week is ahead, and we need your help in showing all of our love and appreciation to our teachers and staff at CMS. Please consider donating a giftcard to be drawn for each and every staff member during Staff Appreciation Week!

We have a goal of sending each staff member home with at least $20 worth of gift cards. If you choose to send in a $10 gift card that is absolutely fine as well. We can stack it with another gift card. These can all be dropped off at the front office with Mrs. Galaise.

COUNSELOR SNACK MINISTRY
If you know Mrs. Alvarado and Mr. Cornelius, you know that kids love to just go visit them to chat and grab a snack if they need it. We know how hungry middle school students can be! Let’s help with the snack ministry! Please drop off any individually wrapped snack items in the front office and label it for Counselors. We appreciate any donations.
