ACTION REQUIRED:
ALL Attendance Changes Must Be Submitted Through PickUp Patrol
PickUp Patrol should also be used to report student absences and planned late arrivals. Using this tool keeps the school office, nurse, and classroom teacher aligned and informed.
When PickUp Patrol is used, there is no need to send a separate email to MREattendance@nrsd.net or the classroom teacher.
Thank you for partnering with us to keep our attendance and dismissal processes safe, smooth, and well organized.
A visual guide is included below to support families with making updates in PickUp Patrol. Additional help—including resources in Spanish and Portuguese—is available using the buttons below.
💡 Reminder: Check your Default Dismissal in PickUp Patrol and update it as needed—this ensures your child always goes where you expect.
Winter Reading Log
The MRE Literacy Team is hosting a new reading challenge!
Each time you read—or are read to—for 20 minutes over winter break, color in one winter picture on your reading sheet. Complete the entire sheet and return it to earn a small prize, plus a chance to win some larger prizes too! Hard copies will be sent home before winter break. To receive your small prize, completed sheets must be returned by Wednesday, January 7.
Urgent Health News!
Strep Throat, Stomach Viruses and Colds
We are experiencing a school-wide rise in typical winter illnesses, including colds, strep throat, and stomach bugs. This week in particular, we’ve seen an uptick in cases involving nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.
If your child develops any of these symptoms or a fever, they must stay home for at least 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medications. Norovirus is 48 hours symptom free. They should also show noticeable improvement and be eating and drinking normally before returning to school. Please review the information below, and don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns.
Unplanned Dismissals: Plan Ahead for Prompt Pickup
Sick Students & Unplanned Events
Please ensure your family has a plan in place should your child become sick during the school day. If a student needs to be dismissed due to illness, prompt pickup is required.
Much like planning for an unexpected early release due to weather or other emergencies, having designated contacts or backup caregivers available allows students to go home quickly to rest and recover.
Cold Weather Gear is a MUST!
Dress for the Weather
Please ensure your child comes to school with:
Hat & gloves
Several layers of clothing
Winter coat
Boots & snow pants (when there is snow on the ground)
Why it matters:
We review the Child Care Weather Watch each day. Since children are outside on most days, warm winter gear is a must—especially because it can be windy on school grounds!
Keep Lips Healthy This Winter
Cold weather and wind can dry out lips. Help your child by:
Encouraging plenty of water
Discouraging lip licking
Applying lip balm or unscented ointment throughout the day
Sending lip balm to school

Lunch Time!
Arriving Late or Picking Up Early? Here’s What to Know!
If your child needs to be dismissed early, please keep in mind that lunch and recess can make it harder for us to bring students to the office quickly. When possible, planning pick-ups outside of these times helps everything run more smoothly for both students and staff.
Below are lunch times to support your planning. Recess typically follows right after lunch:
Kindergarten: 11:30–11:55
Grade 1: 11:15–11:45
Grade 2: 11:45–12:15
Grade 3: 12:00–12:25
Grade 4: 12:15–12:40
Grade 5: 12:30–12:55
