From the Principal... From the Principal...

As September begins, I want to thank you for helping us start the school year strong! The excitement and energy in our classrooms are truly inspiring as students settle into routines and dive into new learning experiences.

Upcoming Highlights:

Literacy Night - join us on October 2nd for our annual Literacy Night and Book Fair! There will be great literacy stations around the school for kids of all ages and the always favorite pastime - the Scholastic Bookfair!

50th Day of School- We will celebrate the 50th day of school, Oct. 10th, 1950's style! Get those poodle skirts, jeans, white t-shirts, and leather jackets ready to go! Root beer floats will happen as well as learning how to hand-jive.

Attendance Matters: Consistent attendance sets students up for success. Let’s work together to ensure every child is present and on time each day. If your child will be absent remember to call the school office at 317-539-9225. See more information about attendance further down in the newsletter.

September is just the beginning of an exciting year of growth and learning. Keep an eye on our Facebook page and Instagram pages for updates, reminders, and celebrations of our students’ successes.

Thank you for your ongoing support and partnership. Together, we’re building a safe, engaging, and thriving school community.

Thank you to everyone that was able to support us during our Walkathon. This is our primary school fundraiser each year. These funds will help with whole school activities, field trips, convocations, treats.... we can't do the extras without this support. We can still accept donations that will go towards student prizes until the end of the day on September 5th. You can go to https://give.mybooster.com/mill-creek-east-elementary-1 Any donation helps!

The students all received a t-shirt for the walkathon today. We were able to purchase these thanks to our business sponsors:

Gold Level - Denney Companies, Cool Ray's Comfort, Dirty Services, Bucks Electric, and Hicks Pools

Silver Level - CJ's Pizza

Bronze Level - NSSB Bank

Please thank these sponsors and support their businesses! We truly appreciate them.

The students may be asked to wear their walkathon t-shirts for field trips so try to keep track of them :)

Thank you again for your continued support of our school!

Eating Lunch with Your Child Eating Lunch with Your Child

Our students love it when a family member comes to have lunch with them at school. We will begin this next Tuesday - beginning September 2nd. We ask, if possible, that younger siblings are not brought with you. Also, you may bring restaurant food in to eat but please no sodas. Please check in at the office. You will meet your child at the cafeteria doors then go to the new booths down near the office to eat lunch together! At the end of the lunch time you can walk your child back to the cafeteria. Please do not go to the classrooms. If you plan on volunteering in the rooms, you need to return to the main office to sign in differently.

September 15-19 is Student Sleep Health Week. It is reported that 78% of high school students and 34% of children do not get enough sleep on an average school night. The American Academy of Sleep Medicine recommends that children ages 6-12 get nine to twelve hours of sleep per 24 hours. Use this bedtime calculator to help determine the recommended sleep time for your children! sleepeducation.org/bedtime

Tips for helping your child get better sleep include having a quiet, cool sleep environment, developing a calm nightly routine like reading or taking a bath, restricting screen time before bed, and maintaining consistency in bedtime and wake times.

School Care Registration School Care Registration

Hello Mill Creek East Families! We are using School Care as our primary source for notifying parents when a child comes to the clinic. We will call a parent if the visit requires further attention otherwise look for email from School Care to explain why your child was seen in the clinic. You will need to be registered to received the messages.

Some of you have noticed emails and or texts from School Care. School Care is a platform we use to communicate when and why your student was seen in the clinic. In the past each student would bring home a pink slip regarding visit, School Care will be replacing pink slips. You may have noticed multiple pages to fill out with School Care, we know this is long, but please take the time to fill out each page. School Care will carry over with each student to the middle and high school. Thanks for taking the time to fill out all the forms.

Also, if you need to have your child leave early for the day, please pick them up by 3:15 p.m. After this time they will be dismissed at our 3:40 bell. If your child is NOT normally a walker and you will be meeting them to walk please call the office so we can have them with our walker group of students. No one is to park in the school parking lot and walk over to get your child - you must go through the car rider line before or after school. If you need to help buckle your child's seatbelt please pull into the front playground parking lot to do this after you pick them up. Thank you for your help!
