Message from the Principal
Good Afternoon Highview Families,
Next week at Highview is our Spirit Week Dress-Up days - please see the daily themes below. Monday starts with “anything but a backpack” day.
Please note that Saturday, October 31 is Halloween. While Halloween is not on a school day, please note that we do not formally observe Halloween at Highview. If students choose to dress up, we ask that they follow our appropriate school dress and appearance expectations, including no masks, no full facepaint, no toy weapons or large accessories, or anything that causes a significant disruption to the learning environment.
Seventh grade families, please be sure to complete the Field Trip Permission form for the 7th grade field trip on November 5. The form and information is linked here. PERMISSION SLIP
Have a great week!

Making screen time more meaningful
When it comes to screen time for students in schools, educational leaders everywhere are asking some common questions.
- Is less screen time the only approach?
- How can schools improve the quality of screen time?
- Can screen time be justified if it has a meaningful impact on learning?
And with the increasing use of AI, school districts are faced with even more challenges to navigate.
This fall, Mounds View Public Schools will consider these issues and more as it convenes a steering committee to provide recommendations to the School Board. Throughout the school year, the group will solicit community feedback and look at four main areas related to educational technology.
- Developing screen time usage guidelines
- Creating an AI usage framework
- Considering laptop and device monitoring tools
- Defining active and passive use of technology
Farm to School Thursdays
This Farm to School Thursday, students enjoyed locally-produced beef meatballs from Rancher’s Legacy and Minnesota-grown delicata squash. Meatballs provide protein to help build and maintain strong muscles, while delicata squash provides vitamin A to support healthy vision.
Patriot's Pen
Do you enjoy writing? Do you like having others read your writings? Would you like to get paid to write? The Brooker-Edmond VFW Post 724 is sponsoring a Patriot’s Pen essay writing contest for students in grades 6-8. The essay’s theme this year is “What a Veteran Taught Me About America”. Your Social Studies teacher will have entry forms available for you and a screencast, which details the specific requirements for these essays. Cash prizes are awarded locally; you could also qualify for district, state, and national prizes if your essay is selected. 6th grade MN Studies Teacher, Ms. Hallenberger (Room 109), can answer questions you may have. The entries will be collected in the front office for pickup by 10/29 at 2:30 pm so we can get them to the VFW Post representatives by the due date on the form. Students can also enter their essay until 10/31 at 11:59pm by using the bit.ly code for ScholarsApp (students will need to use a different email address than their school email.) Use this Bit.ly code: https://bit.ly/40Wlljo
