A Message from our School Counselor, Mrs. Allred A Message from our School Counselor, Mrs. Allred

We’ve had an exciting and eventful week at Hawks View as we begin to wrap up the 2024–2025 school year!

Last week, our Second Grade Reading Restaurant was a highlight, with students serving up some impressive literary "meals." Families and community members were welcomed into our classrooms, where they enjoyed a delightful series of courses prepared by our talented second graders. A big shoutout to our second grade teachers, who did a wonderful job preparing students for their server roles. Students were confident, well-rehearsed, and full of enthusiasm!

Throughout this trimester, students have also been engaging in Art Literacy, where they’ve been working on painting Kindness Rocks to be displayed in our school courtyard. We’re looking forward to seeing the positive messages and vibrant artwork that will brighten our space. Many thanks to our amazing Art Lit volunteers for making these creative experiences possible for all of our students.

In addition, our Kindergarten and Third Grade students recently enjoyed field trips to the zoo! They had a fantastic time exploring and observing the animals. We've loved hearing all the fun and memorable stories they've shared. Special thanks to the teachers, staff, and volunteers who helped make these adventures a success

Nutrition Services - Upcoming Changes to School Milk Options Nutrition Services - Upcoming Changes to School Milk Options

As part of upcoming updates to federal nutrition standards, the USDA is introducing new regulations that limit the amount of added sugars allowed in school meals. In alignment with these guidelines, our district will be implementing some adjustments to our menus, including updates to our milk offerings beginning next school year.

Starting in the 2025–2026 school year, chocolate milk will be offered at lunch, on Fridays. On all other school days, students will continue to have two choices available at both breakfast and lunch: 1% white milk and skim white milk.

These updates are designed to support the health and well-being of all students. To learn more about the USDA’s updated nutrition standards, please visit their website at www.fns.usda.gov.

If you have any questions, please reach out at nutrition@sherwood.k12.or.us.

Borrowed Clothing Borrowed Clothing

If your student has borrowed any clothing from our health room, please be sure to launder and return it to the school office so that we have it available for other students in need, and we can start out next year stocked up and ready to go. We are currently in very short supply of extra clothing. Thank you.

Lost and Found Deadline Lost and Found Deadline

Please remind your students to check the lost and found for any items they may have left behind. We have accumulated quite a few items over the last few months, so please come look for any missing items! All unclaimed items will be donated on June 13th.

New Address? New Address?

If you plan to move over the summer, or have already made a move, please let the office know as soon as possible. As we are starting to think about class sizes for next fall, it’s very important that we know if your child(ren) will be attending school at Hawks View. End or beginning of year mailings will not be forwarded if your address is not current.

🎉A Legendary Farewell: Bruce Maplethorpe Retires After 53 Years of Service! 🚌 🎉A Legendary Farewell: Bruce Maplethorpe Retires After 53 Years of Service! 🚌

After more than five decades behind the wheel, Bruce Maplethorpe, Sherwood School District’s longest-serving employee and beloved bus driver, is taking his final ride. Bruce began his incredible journey in 1972—as a senior in high school—when he was asked to help by picking up students and bringing them to school. That one-time favor turned into a remarkable 53-year career of dedication, care, and community spirit.

Let’s put this into perspective:

🚍750,000+ miles driven – That’s over three times the distance to the moon!

Over 1 million student rides safely delivered to and from school.

💛A lifetime of commitment to the students and families of Sherwood.

Bruce has truly been the heartbeat of our transportation team, always showing up with a warm smile and unwavering reliability. His legacy is one of kindness, consistency, and quiet heroism.

As he prepares for retirement, we invite you to help us celebrate this living legend! Share your memories, kind words, or fun stories by emailing transport@sherwood.k12.or.us. We’ll make sure Bruce receives every note before his final day on June 10th.

Let’s send him off with the love and recognition he so deeply deserves. 🚦🎈
