Principal's Update
Good Morning Memorial Families,
I hope that the weekend was restful and that you and your children are ready for another week full of learning. We are continuing to spend time in classrooms building our routines, establishing expectations for learning, and getting to know our new teachers and classmates. I am especially proud of our kindergarten students who have picked up on all of the school routines and are so excited to learn that it is infectious. They are happy, engaging, and so proud of every new skill that they learn.
This week we are holding our first “family” meetings of the year. We are all excited to meet our new kindergarten family members and begin building relationships across grades and across the school. Each adult in the building has a group of students (2 or so from each grade) assigned to them for the duration of their time at Memorial. Every year we graduate our fourth graders in June and welcome two new family members into our school families in September. It is our students’ favorite time of the month as they get to play, learn, and be silly with students they otherwise might not ever know. Our older students enjoy being the “big” brothers and sisters to the younger students and we enjoy how much our family time brings our school community together. Ask your child about their school family later this week.
On Wednesday and Thursday evening, we will hold our Open House/Curriculum Nights. This night is intended for parents and caregivers only. It is a time for you to learn more about the grade level curriculum, the classroom routines and expectations, and to get to know your child’s teacher. There will also be a presentation in the cafeteria where we will review schoolwide items, and speak about our English and Spanish Language Arts Curriculum Review and the fall pilots as we search for our new curricular resource. We look forward to seeing you there. As a reminder, this night is not the time to have a conversation with your child’s teacher about your child. Our teachers are always happy to schedule a time to speak with you, so should you need to discuss something, please reach out through email to schedule a different time to meet.
Have a terrific week. I look forward to seeing many of you later in the week.
Warmly,
Wendy.
