Message from the Principal
Dear Sato Families,
I hope you all had a restful and rejuvenating Fall Break last week. The time between Fall Break and Winter Break is always a fast and furious, but exciting, period here at Sato! We look forward to several weeks of high energy and special activities.
I want to express my gratitude for our gracious community who has consistently stepped up to support those in need. Your generosity is truly inspiring. With your help, we were able to raise over $1,200 to provide family friendly gift cards to 64 families in need for fall break.
A quick reminder that we still have a variety of shelf-stable food available at the school for any family in need. Please feel free to stop by the school; you are welcome to take whatever you need.
Hopefully you saw the notice about our annual "Lend a Paw" Drive! This yearly event brings in many much-needed items that are donated directly to family members in our local community who are in need. Sato's Student Council always does a fantastic job promoting this drive. They are working hard to fill our main display case! If the case is filled by December 12th, Mrs. Parker and I will be doing a special, fun activity during our December assembly for the students! To learn more about what items we are collecting, please be sure to watch the video linked below to see how you can help us reach our goal.
We look forward to another few weeks of excitement in our building and thank you, as always, for your unwavering support of your students.
Warmly,
Annie Pleau
Principal
Lend a Paw Drive
Each grade level can help by donating specific items which is shared in the video below. We will be collecting donations between now and next Friday, December 12th. Our goal is to fill our front display cases and if we do, Mrs. Pleau and Ms. Parker will be in for a fun surprise at our December school assembly.

Inclement Weather Plans-Action Needed!
In the event of a snow day, late start or early release, it is important for families to have a plan in place. Now is the time to make sure all of your emergency contacts are updated in ParentVue and you have a plan in case we have an early release situation. If you are not sure how to update this, please contact our front office.
Important!! Sato does not typically have bus service on late start days due to inclement weather. This means that we will have a tremendous amount of foot and car traffic as we have to do a modified release plan to be sure that all students are released to a parent or family guardian.
In preparation for this possibility, please make sure all families have a Sato Pick Up Card (pictured). We use these cards to help get students back to families in a quick and orderly fashion. If you do not have a pickup card, please contact the front office or your child's teacher and we will send one home with your child.
Please see our map below which shows the pick up locations for No Bus Days.
If we have to enact this plan, we will communicate all the need to know information via ParentSquare however, please review this information now and make sure you have a plan to pick up your children in the event that we have no bus service.
Scooter Town
This week in PE, our students took part in Scooter Town, a fun pedestrian safety activity brought to us by Beaverton Safe Routes to School. They got to pretend to be cars, pedestrians, and store owners while learning how to stay safe when walking or riding. Check out the K-5 Scooter Town Recap graphic to find out about what they learned, how to practice pedestrian safety at home, and fun questions to engage with your student.

Erin's Law
Beaverton School District and Oregon Law require elementary and secondary schools to provide comprehensive sexuality education, including sexual abuse prevention, annually in grades K-12. Instruction is age-appropriate, medically accurate, and relevant for all students.
Your child(ren)'s teacher(s) will notify families prior to beginning units involving these topics. These lessons typically begin in the late Winter and Spring time.
The Beaverton School District has adopted The Great Body Shop and fightchildabuse.org (Protect Yourself Rules) to teach this content. If you would like to preview the materials or opt your child out of instruction, contact your student’s teacher to get access to the Parent Portal.
Grades 1-5: Comprehensive sexuality education addresses the emotional, physical, and social aspects of human sexuality and aims to equip children and young people with the following knowledge and skills:
Knowing physical and reproductive anatomy
Communicating needs and values
Disease prevention
Developing respectful and healthy relationships and boundaries
Identifying trusted sources of support
Sexual abuse prevention per Erin’s Law (SB 856) - see below for more details
3rd-5th grades: Menstruation per the Menstrual Dignity Act (HB 3294)
3rd-5th grades: Learning that students all have the right to be treated with dignity and respect, no matter their sexual orientation and gender identity
3rd-5th grades: Proper health care practices during puberty; function of reproductive systems
Kindergarten: In accordance with Erin’s Law (SB 856), we are educating children about sexual abuse prevention, how to get help, and promoting awareness within our communities.
In these lessons, students will learn the following:
Personal Safety: Students will learn ways to determine if a situation is safe or not. Students will also practice strategies to avoid peer pressure in unsafe situations.
Touching Safety: Students will learn about safe, unsafe, and unwanted touches, and rules about touching private body parts. They’ll also learn to say no to unsafe or unwanted touches and to tell an adult if someone breaks the rules about touching private body parts. Anatomically correct names will be used for the body.
Assertiveness: These lessons will also give students a chance to practice asking a trusted adult for help, telling an adult about an unsafe situation, and being assertive to get out of unsafe situations.
Thank you for helping us make our school a safe and supportive place where everyone can learn!
