Something Very Fishy is Coming Your Way Virtually

Welcome to Something Very Fishy Online. We are a collaboration of teachers, artists, and scientists working together to create elementary school lesson plans addressing ocean and climate literacy. We use a problem-based learning approach to challenge children to solve problems related to ongoing concerns in our oceans and our climate. Our creative approach to blending music, story-telling, puppets, live marine animals, underwater video adventures, and online chats with scientists, make for a unique and life-changing experience for elementary classes from grades K-5.

For Spring 2021, we share new content for your classroom including

  • FREE Something Very Fishy Online Exhibit (Ask Dr. Sea)
  • FREE Ocean Literacy Interactive Learning Modules & Lesson Plans
  • FREE Something Very Fishy Student & Teacher Workbooks

Scroll down for instructions on how to access these resources and programs for your own classes. To sign up for this monthly newsletter, please click the orange FOLLOW button (right side - looks like a little ghost). Something Very Fishy Online Exhibit - Mar 1-5

How would you like to Zoom a Zoologist and Ask Dr. Sea a question? Sign up for a FREE one-hour Zoom (or Google Meet) virtual tour of the Florida Keys with Dr. Sea and his crew. Learn how to transplant corals, visit the Aquarius underwater habitat, explore a sea turtle nesting beach, and talk with a marine animal veterinarian about cool and unusual sea life.

This one-hour live stream online exhibit is FREE and will take place March 1-5th, 2021 at 8:45, 10:00 and 11:15 am. Time slots are limited so contact Dr. Michael Childress (mchildr@clemson.edu) to sign up your class or home school group to attend. Did we mention that it is FREE?

In addition if you agree to participate in our assessment study, we will send your class a set of 2021 SVF Student and Teacher Workbooks for FREE. Your only commitment is to complete the pre- and post-project assessments and online teacher survey. We will arrange pick-up of your completed student workbooks when they are ready. For more information and to sign up for the Something Very Fishy Online Exhibit, please contact Michael Childress (mchildr@clemson.edu).

Something Very Fishy Live Performance - (coming this fall)

Would you like a live performance of Something Very Fishy in your school post-COVID? We are taking SVF mobile so students can participate in the program safely within their school's premises. The touring production includes a musical theatre performance, live animal exhibits, and 2021 SVF Student and Teacher Workbooks. Our hope is to schedule the upstate SC schools tour for the coming fall term. Touring performances will be limited and as such we are asking schools to register their interest to participate. Pre-registration interest is not binding, but it will ensure schools do not miss out on this unique opportunity. For more information and to pre-register your school's interest to participate, please contact Kathy Prosser (info@educationalentertainment.org).
