Malvern's Mission Statement Malvern's Mission Statement

At Malvern, we are kind, curious and brave. We learn, grow and lead together.

🍎 Principal News 🍎 🍎 Principal News 🍎

Malvern Families,

September is here, and our Red Hawks are learning and rising! Our scholars worked extremely hard on their MAP tests. Kindergarten through Second Grade will be completing their mClass assessments soon. At Malvern, we believe in the power of yet, a growth mindset, and living out our RISE expectations every day.

This week, we are excited to celebrate Grandparent’s Day by inviting any special “Grand” person in your child’s life to join them for lunch on campus. For the safety of our scholars, visitors must be listed on the approved visitor list and present a physical photo ID to enter. We look forward to honoring the incredible “Grands” who mean so much to our students.

We will also conduct our first lockdown drill of the year this week. The safety and well-being of our students are of paramount importance at Malvern, and we want to keep you informed about the steps we take to maintain a secure learning environment. Safety drills are a critical part of our emergency preparedness plan. Each year, we conduct one announced lockdown drill and one unannounced drill to ensure that students and staff are familiar with procedures and know how to respond effectively in the event of a real emergency. Secure and lockdown drills help prepare our school community in case there is ever a threat inside or near the building. This week’s drill will be conducted in partnership with the McKinney Police Department and the McKinney ISD Safety and Security Department. Please don’t be alarmed if you notice several law enforcement officers on campus during this time. While the drill is in progress, a sign will be posted at the front entrance, and visitors will not be allowed to enter until the drill is complete. These drills are designed to keep our students safe, and teachers will review procedures with their classes so students feel calm and prepared.

Recent changes in Texas law require MISD to obtain additional parent/guardian consent before the school nurse or trained staff can provide medical care. The online Medical Consent to Treat form MUST be completed for every child at Malvern in order for them to be seen and treated by our nurse. If you haven’t already done so, please complete this form as soon as possible.

Thank you for the many ways you support our amazing RED HAWKS and your help with our Believe Kids Fundraiser! We look forward to seeing our scholars at school this week.

Proud to be a Red Hawk,

Inetra Nelson, Principal & Melinna Herrera, Assistant Principal

Inetra Nelson, Directora y Melinna Herrera, Subdirectora

For the safety of all students, we kindly ask parents not to stop and talk with their children during recess while they are on the playground. This helps us maintain a secure and supervised environment, ensures smooth routines, and avoids distractions during playtime. Thank you for supporting our efforts to keep all students safe.

The Magic of a Mindful Minute

Life can feel rushed, especially in the morning or at the end of the school day. One of the best tools we can give our kids (and ourselves!) is the gift of a mindful minute.

A mindful minute is just 60 seconds of focusing on your breath. When you feel frustrated, worried, or overwhelmed, try this simple activity with your child:

  1. Stop: Find a quiet spot.
  2. Breathe: Take a deep breath in through your nose, filling your belly with air like a balloon.
  3. Pause: Hold the air for a moment.
  4. Exhale: Let it all out slowly through your mouth, making a gentle "whoosh" sound.

Practicing this simple exercise can help both of you feel calmer and more focused. You can even create a special "calm down" space at home!

Medical Consent Needed for New Texas Law

Recent changes in Texas law now require McKinney ISD to obtain additional parent/guardian consent before providing medical care through the school nurse or trained staff. The link below takes you to a consent form that is only available in English and Spanish. Parents can also access the consent form by logging into the SSO portal and choosing the MISD Parental Consent Form.

The language of the consent is below:

“ I agree and understand that the school nurse or other assigned staff may provide routine, health-related care services throughout the course of the school year. Signed medication forms(25/26), Individualized health plans(IHP)(25/26), or medical accommodations through the Individualized Education Plans(IEP), ARD or 504 will remain in force. I also agree that this includes that the district will seek appropriate emergency care for a student with or without consent, should it be deemed necessary.” YES or NO are the two choice options.

Link to Parent Consent Form

Once this form is filled out, a unique link is sent to guardian 1's email address that has the medical care verbiage as stated above. This form may only be completed by guardian #1. You must manually type your email into the consent box when prompted, not allow it to autofill. The email address must match the email address provided to MISD upon registration. Google Chrome is the preferred browser for compatibility.

Parent Consent for Student Club Participation Parent Consent for Student Club Participation

At McKinney ISD, one of our top priorities is making sure every student feels connected and has opportunities to get involved. We know that when students find activities, clubs, and organizations they enjoy, they build stronger relationships, feel a greater sense of belonging, and are more engaged in school. In accordance with Senate Bill 12, McKinney ISD requires parent approval for students to participate in any student club or organization. All student clubs and organizations must comply with district guidelines and state law.

Please use this Parent Consent Form to provide or deny permission for your child to participate in student clubs at our school.

By working together, we can make sure every student finds a place to belong and thrive.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Nelson and Mrs. Herrera

2025-2026 Learning Plans

Dear Parents, you may access the 2025-2026 learning plans for your child's class on our MISD Teaching and Learning website.

Visitors and Volunteers Visitors and Volunteers

  • MISD requires every visitor/volunteer to report to the office to sign in and receive a visitor badge. At the camera outside of the school, please state your name, show your ID, and explain why you are here at school.

  • A software system called “Hallpass School Visitor Management” is used to scan in visitors. A valid, unexpired state or government issued photo ID must be presented each time you visit, volunteer, or pick up a student. If you arrive on campus without your driver’s license, you will be asked to leave and return to campus when you have identification. A photocopy of your ID will not be accepted.

  • MISD requires that volunteers complete a criminal background check every school year. If you plan to volunteer anywhere in the building or chaperone a field trip, please complete the required volunteer application.

MISD will not offer a grace period this school year for you to complete your annual background check. All background checks must be completed and approved before you can serve on campus.
