Dear Faculty, Staff, Parents, Guardians, and Community

The month of October was a whirlwind and has pushed us right into the month of November. Leaves are starting to change which makes our sweet little town acknowledge the holiday spirit is coming. November is a time for gratitude (our word of the month), and I would l like to express my appreciation for our amazing staff, dedicated families, and, of course, our wonderful students. Thank you for being active participants in our school community... whether through volunteering, attending events, or simply encouraging your children at home.

This newsletter entails spotlights of staff, student work and upcoming events our students are working on for the month of November. Involve your students with the counseling activities regarding Gratitude, and find some ways to help with Math at home by using the links below. Enjoy our newly added video from our October assembly. Give a big shout out to Mrs. Hayes for creating our November newsletter! She is almost finished with her Master's of Educational Admin.

Lastly, I would like to remind everyone to be mindful of the changing weather as we move into winter. Please ensure your child is dressed appropriately for the cooler temperatures, and if needed, reach our for support through our school resources. We believe that outside air and children playing are the best way to help cultivate our thinkers. If you haven't noticed, we play outside as much as possible. If the weather turns off too cold or wet we will continue all our procedures as we do for inside recess. In the mornings if the weather is too wet or cold students will enter through the main entrance and go to the classrooms for inside recess.

Thank you again for your continued commitment to our school community, Together, we are creating an enriching environment that allows every student to thrive.

Wishing you a wonderful November filled with warmth, joy and gratitude,

Jamie Burtner

Sterling Grade School Principal

Mrs. Cheryl Estabrook

We want to thank Cheryl for her 12 years of service to SGS as she is retiring at the end of the month.

I started working for Sterling Grade School in Aug. of 2012. I have always loved working with the kids. Before I started working at Sterling, I worked for 20 some years at, Cornerstone Daycare in Lyons. I worked as a 4&5 year old daycare teacher. I enjoy watching the kids progress as they are learning new things, & of all the excitement they show when they've mastered something. Truly working at S.G.S, has been one of my most rewarding experiences. I have meet some great co- workers, & all the faculty are great people to work with.

Miss. Oppriecht

I choose to work in Special Education because I love seeing my students accomplish goals and activities that are meaningful to them while growing in their ability to participate in their educational environment. When completing my MS, I observed an OT work with a student who had CP participate in his school's pep band. She met with him during their sessions, then would go with him to band practices to help him learn the correct step patterns. She showed me that our students can do more than we think if we just take the time to see their

strengths and find what motivates them.

Mr. Comley

This is my 2nd year working at SGS. My favorite part of teaching is helping students build a foundation, especially in math. I use engaging skip counting songs and fun dice games to help build fact automaticity. My dad was a title math teacher for many years, and I always wanted to be like him when I grew up. Now, I have the chance to share my love for math with my students! What I enjoy most about working at SGS is building relationships with the students and trying times build their character. My hope is that I can be a positive influence and make someone's life better each day. I teach to motivate and inspire students to believe in themselves and shine their light!
