Course Selection Grades 9 -11

Last week Salem High School started our course selection process for current grade 9 - 11 students. This part of the process is more about educating students what is available rather than locking them into courses.

Students Watched videos that were created by each department and then had an opportunity for Question and Answer with academic coaches and lead teachers. This part of the process will be completed this week.

Here are the course selection forms for each grade:

Rising 10th Graders

Rising 11th Graders

Rising 12th Graders

Program of Studies

On Thursday parents will have access to course selection data through Naviance. An email will be sent out to remind all parents on how to access Naviance this week.

February 10th will be parent course selection evening from 5-7pm

“BE ABOUT IT”

  • Live the values of our school community; show pride, respect, and responsibility not just by saying it, but by consistently doing it.

  • Follow through on commitments, whether that’s in academics, athletics, arts, or personal goals.

  • Model integrity by letting your behavior reflect your intentions—be the example others can count on.

“BE ABOUT IT” means don’t just talk about who you are or what you stand for, prove it every day through effort, character, and action.

S.H.E.L.L.

S.H.E.L.L. (Salem High Educator Learning Lab) is a flexible, student-centered approach to education that is designed to support academic growth, exploration, and innovation. The Learning Lab provides educators with time, guidance, and resources to strengthen skills, receive targeted support, collaborate with peers, and extend learning beyond the traditional classroom.

Through SHELL, Salem High School is deepening its commitment to personalized learning—creating an environment where students can ask questions, try new strategies, get feedback, and build confidence as learners. Whether students need extra help, enrichment opportunities, or a place to work and reflect, SHELL is designed to bring educators together and design a meaning learning environment that will meet students where they are and help them move forward.

In order to provide our whole school community an understanding of some of the great things happening at Salem High School we have created a podcast that we will be using to tell our story and more importantly let our students and educators shine!

Episode 2 - Sea Excursions:

Join Senior Guywintz as he takes us aboard the SSV Corwith Cramer for a two-week sailing expedition through Cape Cod Bay and the Gulf of Maine! In this episode of the S.H.E.L.L. We Talk About It podcast, Guywintz sits down with Science Instructional Coach Jackie Burns to discuss his adventures in the S.E.A. Expedition High School Program. They chat about life as a crew member, exploring the Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary, and how this real-world journey connects to his science studies at Salem High School.

Special Thanks: A huge thank you to the Norman H. Read Trust for generously funding the scholarship that made this experiential learning opportunity possible.

Witches earn statement win over St. Marys in front of packed house

By Matt Williams | Asst. Sports Editor Feb 4, 2026

Longtime Salem High boys basketball coach Tommy Doyle looked out at the sea of humanity celebrating with his players late Wednesday night at Veterans Memorial Fieldhouse and took a moment to think, “This is what high school basketball is all about.”

The host Witches survived a wild final minute to top St. Mary’s Lynn, 61-59, in front of a packed house estimated to be at least a couple of thousand fans.

Stop & Shop partners with Salem High on student food pantry

Salem High School celebrated the official grand opening Wednesday of the Black Cat Pantry, an in-school food pantry aimed at addressing food insecurity amongst its students and their families.

Through the initiative, students in the school’s culinary arts program will prepare nutritious, ready-to-eat meals for classmates in need. The pantry will also stock essential items such as hygiene products, fresh produce, and other necessities determined by students and families to best meet their needs.

School officials launched this initiative in partnership with the Stop & Shop School Food Pantry program, which is donating $7,500 and a commercial-grade refrigerator to Salem High School.

Harvard Model United Nations

It is my honor to welcome you all to the seventy-third session of Harvard Model United Nations—one of the largest, oldest, and most prestigious Model UN conferences around the world—set to take place from Thursday, January 29, 2026 through Sunday, February 1, 2026 in Boston, Massachusetts.

My name is Nicholas Yang, a senior at Harvard College studying Computer Science and Neuroscience and serving as your Secretary-General for the upcoming iteration of our conference. I have been a part of Model UN since my freshman year of high school, having competed all four years of high school, and have been a part of the HMUN team for the past three years, two of which I was a member of the Secretariat. This activity has been a source of personal growth—it strengthens delegates’ skills that they would not normally learn in the classroom: the ability to speak publicly, debate, and collaborate with one another.

Our conference gathers hundreds of Harvard College undergraduate students and thousands of high school students from over sixty countries around the world in the city of Boston every year—it has never failed to amaze me to see how prepared delegates are when they show up to conference and see their performance as the conference goes on. I hope that delegates are able to craft creative solutions to the pressing issues and challenges that the world faces through our committees.

As the countdown begins until the start of HMUN 2026, I am excited to unveil the hard work that my Secretariat has done to make the seventy-third session of Harvard Model United Nations a reality—from improving our conference administration to continuing our substantive excellence.

If you have any questions in the meantime regarding our conference, we encourage you to first look through the other pages on this website and email our administration team at info@harvardmun.org with any inquiries that you may have. I look forward to seeing you all in January.

Best regards,

Nicholas Yang

Secretary-General
Harvard Model United Nations 2026

This multi-day experience is one of a kind and stretches our students to collaborate, think outside the box, and be knowledgable of extremely complex issues.
