Dear Friends & Families of CES,

We have an exciting week ahead at Chatham Elementary School. Monday is the official start of the Scholastic Book Fair. Thank you to all who have volunteered, there are still a few spots open, so please sign up for a time to volunteer if you can!

A huge thank you to the PTO for planning and running the fair! Also, our deepest gratitude to the PTO for purchasing one book for every CES student. Our SHARKS love to read and new books make reading even more fun!

This Thursday, we will be holding our first-ever Author's Night at CES. Come visit the cafeteria to meet our student authors and read some of their poetry, research, and short stories. Then head down to the Book Fair where we have extended hours for family shopping and some special items not available for sale during the school day. The event begins at 5:30 pm and ends at 7:00 pm.

Also taking place this week is the MRSD All-District Art Show on Wednesday, March 19th, and Empty Bowls, Full Hearts on Thursday, March 20th. More details about both events are below. And of course, we will all be on the lookout on Monday to make sure no leprechauns have caused mischief in our school!

Back by popular demand, Mr. DiNoia lead students in 1st-4th grade in the Fastest Class Challenge. There were two divisions: Grades 1-2 and Grades 3-4. The competition was fierce, but two classrooms came out on top.

Congratulations to Mrs. Laub's 2nd-Grade Class who averaged 10.9 laps per student and Mr. Anglim's 3rd-Grade Class who averaged 10.3 laps per student. Those are some speedy SHARKS!!

CES is excited to announce that Children's Author, Melissa Stewart, will be visiting our school on Monday, April 7th as part of our Read Across America celebration. Ms. Stewart has written a number of high-interest and critically-acclaimed non-fiction picture books. During her visit she will be debuting her most recent title, MEET THE MINI-MAMMALS.

Students can pre-order signed copies of her books. Books will be distributed on April 7th. Orders are due by March 17th.

Hard copies will be sent home via back pack mail or you can download and print the Book Order Form HERE.

Round I of the CES March Madness contests is quickly coming to a close. Only a few more matchups until we enter the Great Eight. This week's match up is WATERCRESS and SOUL FOOD SUNDAY. Students will vote on their favorite during their Media Class.

The PTO meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 6:00 pm in the Media Center. Parents that would like to attend from home can connect via the Zoom Meeting Link provided below. There are lots of activities coming soon and all sorts of help is needed.
