To start, I want to say a huge well done to the Year 6 pupils for completing their SATs this week. We know how hard they have worked for them and they approached the whole week with great maturity and perseverance. Well done Year 6!

The week wasn't all tests however! When not in tests, the pupils took part in some lovely (calm) activities.

Nursery Visit Nursery Visit

The first Nursery group returned to Bowling Orchard to see how it had changed from their last visit. After a picnic on the straw bales, we had a tour of the Orchard. We did some pond dipping and looked at the creatures using a magnifying glass. We then helped do some weeding, digging and planted some bean seeds. We had a great time!

We hope that a lot of you can come and join us on Saturday. A reminder that we will meet on the canal in Saltaire at the bottom of Victoria Road, near the Argy Bargy café boat just before 10.00am and start your walk/run from Saltaire to Bingley Five Rise Locks and back again.

A few things we thought we should point out to you:

There are geese with ducklings, sometimes on the side of the canal. Please walk past them rather than run and, if you are bringing a dog, please keep it on a lead when you pass them.

Please remember to respect other members of the public as it can be busy in places.

Please remember that children taking part are the responsibility of parents/carers at all times. We expect staff and families will walk/run at different paces which is absolutely fine but it would be lovely to start together.

The weather forecast for Saturday is dry but cloudy, but, as we know, this could easily change so be prepared for every type of weather!

Good luck to everyone taking part and have fun.

Next week - on Wednesday 20th- we will be taking part in No Pens Day — a whole-school day where pupils will learn and demonstrate their knowledge and skills through talk, practical activities, drama, problem‑solving and collaborative tasks instead of written work. The focus is on developing pupils’ speaking and listening, vocabulary, reasoning and confidence: for younger pupils this might include story‑telling and role‑play; older pupils might use debate, presentations and group problem solving to deepen their understanding of topics already taught. If you have any questions about specific arrangements for your child (for example if they have additional needs), please contact your child’s class teacher and we will ensure activities are adapted so every pupil can join and benefit.

With it being Census Day next week, there is a slight change to the school menus. Please see below for the updated menus for Thursday and Friday.

Messages home Messages home

We have recently experienced a number of situations where messages have been shared with one parent or carer, and the other parent or carer in the same household has then contacted school to ask why they were not also informed. To ensure consistency, please note that we will always contact the first person listed on your child’s contact details in the first instance. If we are unable to make contact, we will then attempt to reach the second contact. Where contacts live within the same household, we will not routinely communicate the same message separately to both individuals.

Sporting Update Sporting Update

This week we played an extremely strong Blakehill football team. There wasn't much to separate the teams in terms of skill and talent and some great football was played. The match was a brilliant advert for school football. The game ended 1-1, which was a fair result overall.

Well done to everybody involved and good luck to our neighbours, Blakehill, who compete at Wembley next weekend. Everybody at Low Ash will be cheering for you.

Online grooming is when someone builds a relationship with a child or young person online to gain their trust for the purpose of sexual abuse, exploitation, radicalisation, or criminal activity. Since the year 2017/18, there has been an increase of approximately 89% of these sorts of activities.

A reminder that all of our guides can be found on the online safety page of the website.
