The Admin Edit
Dear Grizz Family,
As we move through the fall season, I want to take a moment to highlight two important priorities for our school community: family engagement and student attendance.
At Ashland High School, we know that students are most successful when schools and families work together. Parents, guardians, and caregivers play a vital role in supporting academic achievement, social-emotional well-being, and a positive school experience. We are committed to being your partner in this work and ensuring that every student feels valued, supported, and connected.
Over the coming weeks, we encourage you to take advantage of opportunities to engage with our school community:
Site Council Meeting – October 20
Site Council provides an important forum for families, staff, students, and community members to share perspectives and help guide school improvement efforts. We welcome your participation and voice.Parent Night: Everyday Counts - October 21
Student attendance remains one of the strongest predictors of academic success. We invite families to join us for our Parent Night, Everyday Counts, where we will discuss the importance of regular attendance, strategies for supporting students, and ways the school can partner with families to ensure students are present, engaged, and learning. Please see the accompanying flyer for event details.
As partners in education, we recognize that every family's journey is unique. Whether you have questions, concerns, or simply want to become more involved, our doors are always open. We are here to support all students, families, and guardians as members of the Ashland High School community.
As we recognize Indigenous Peoples' Day on October 12, we encourage our students, families, and community members to take time to learn about the histories, cultures, and experiences of the Native peoples who have lived on and cared for this land since time immemorial. This is an opportunity to reflect on the lasting impacts of our nation's history, deepen our understanding of Indigenous perspectives, and celebrate the resilience, contributions, and rich cultural traditions of Native communities.
We also invite you to take action by engaging in conversations at home, exploring local resources, attending community events, or learning more about the Indigenous peoples whose homeland we share. Together, we can foster greater understanding, respect, and belonging in our community.
At Ashland High School, we believe that strong partnerships between school and home are essential to student success. Whether through attending Site Council, joining us for Every Day Counts, volunteering, reaching out with questions, or simply staying connected to your student's learning journey, your involvement matters. We are committed to being a trusted partner for every student, family, and guardian, and we look forward to working together to ensure that every student feels known, supported, challenged, and inspired.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support. Together, we can ensure that every student has the opportunity to thrive.
With appreciation,
Dr. Francisco L. Atanes

Ashland School District qualifies as a USDA Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) site; this means all students in the Ashland School District have access to a free breakfast and lunch. AHS still wants to know which of our students would traditionally qualify for free and reduced lunch. We use this information to make sure we can direct resources to the students that need it most. The information is completely confidential and for administrative use only. Students who qualify are eligible for reduced fees for school events like our dances as well as reduced fees for AP Tests. Completed forms should be turned into the Main Office to the attention of the Bookkeeper.
