Unearthing the Vanished Gallery Exhibit Unearthing the Vanished Gallery Exhibit

Tours Available June 17th, 18th & 19th - Call to Register: 604-758-5667

This week, tours of MHM’s gallery exhibit Unearthing The Vanished will be offered at 10:30am on June 17, 18, and 19, with additional impromptu tours available in the afternoons. Please call to register 604-758-5667.

This powerful exhibit sheds light on the enduring trauma of forced disappearances and the profound grief experienced by families under Stalin's violent regime. By sharing these stories, the exhibit invites reflection on both the pain of the past and the resilience of those who endured.

A word from Richard Thiessen:

The mission of the Mennonite Heritage Museum is to share the Mennonite story—one marked by both celebration and sorrow. The exhibit, Unearthing the Vanished, tells the collective story of thousands of Mennonites who endured unimaginable mental and physical torment under Stalin’s reign of terror. Many who visit this exhibit may be the children or grandchildren of those who disappeared, whose lives were extinguished without a trace. Through this exhibit, we seek to remember and honour those who perished, as well as those who survived and found the strength to move forward with courage, resilience, and hope.
