Hello HSS Families,

Thanks to so many of you for attending the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony. Many of our students got to help Ms. Allen cut the ribbon in front of the new high school entrance. After that, we all went on a tour of our newly renovated classrooms and cafeteria.

The construction crew worked to install our new art piece on the side of our entrance. An explanation of the piece by our art teacher, Megan Cardillo, follows: The nine panels are displayed in the order of the natural color spectrum. It begins with red, known to be the most eye catching color (hence fire trucks and stop signs) and carries the eye through the spectrum to the more calming colors like blue and green. Each student at HSS worked on at least two panels in this piece. First painting a background color that they mixed, then hand stamping another color on top of a different panel. Have your student walk with you and try and find their pieces.

We were lucky enough to work with Artist in Residence, Mark Ragonese of Bellows Falls. This is how his work is described on his website:

"His work in schools is fun and energetic and designed to give individual attention to every student while illustrating the power and importance of group effort and the handmade object".

I love the way the new art brightens up our entrance. If you have any questions, feel free to call the office or send us an email at hssoffice@sau88.net.

Strings Program Offered in Lebanon

There is a non-profit group called Camerata New England that runs a strings program here in Lebanon. They offer violin and cello lessons to students starting in grade 3 at no cost to the families. They give them a rental instrument and a weekly group lesson held at Mt. Lebanon School. Its goal is to provide lessons and access to an instrument. They can only accept a few students at a time, so space is extremely limited.
