Breakthrough Summer Program Continues to Heat Up
We are officially six weeks into our nine week Teacher Training program for our 30 Teaching Fellows, and four weeks into our six week Summer Program for our rising 7th - 10th grade students. There is no doubt that the effects of the pandemic have added an additional layer of difficulty for all students. However, our Breakthrough students are dedicated. Monday through Friday they focus on improving their academics and going outside of their comfort zones!
While the curriculum varies based on grade level, the rigor of the content remains consistent. Our 7th grade students are reading "The Other Wes Moore" in Language Arts, learning about percents and decimals in math, and viruses in Science. Our 8th grade students are reading "A Raisin in the Sun" in Language Arts, learning about ratios and proportions in math, and DNA and GMO’s in Science. Our 9th grade students are reading "All Things Fall Apart" in Language Arts, learning about multi step equations in math, and density, elements and the periodic table in Science. We have also completed three Fun Fridays: Spirit Day, Olympics, and Career Day. Fun Fridays are just one of the ways we build an intentional and positive community, and of course a great way to have some fun!
With three more weeks remaining with our students and four remaining with our Teaching Fellows, we are excited to watch our community continue to grow emotionally and academically!
