It was a busy week for the girls wrestling team as they completed their first week of competition last week. The stars had a triangular on Tuesday, a Quad on Thursday, and a tournament on Saturday. The results for the stars was three consistent performances.

On Tuesday, the girls dominated Akron-Westfield and East High School at Home. These wins were critical for the stars as it gave them some confidence heading into a competitive field on Thursday.

Thursday, the girls took on Missouri Valley, Oakland Riverside, and West High School. North took on Riverside in the first dual, winning by a sizeable margin. The stars then had a lackluster performance, losing select must-win matches against a tough Missouri Valley team leading them to lose the dual. The stars would bounce back, however, by nearly blanking West High School. After 6 duals, the stars amassed a 5-1 record.

The stars went to the Ridgeview Invitational on Saturday and had stand-out performances from top to bottom. This tournament was highlighted by Sophomore Jenna Hansen and Senior Danyka Petersen who both claimed second place at the tournament. Hansen wrestled the returning state-champ in the finals and lost by a close margin; the sophomore is now 8-1. Senior Danyka Petersen lost a tight match in the finals and she is now 7-2 on the year. Freshman Kaia Jones' performance was maybe the most surprising. Kaia lost to the #1 ranked wrestler in the semi-finals, but battled back to get 3rd place, beating the #8 girl in the process. Kaia is now 8-1 as well.

Other notable performances were Khloe Eliesa (8-2) 5th and Tolitu Jaro (4-3) 5th.

Swimming Swimming

Rylee Rustwick participated in the IGHSAA State Swim meet this past week. On Thursday, she swam her two individual races, the 500 yd Free and 100 yd Backstroke. She swam consistent times with her regular season and gained some great experience! On Friday, Rylee swam the 200 Medley Relay, where they dropped time and moved up four seeds. This is an excellent performance for three freshmen and one sophomore!

Great season Rylee!

This past weekend, seven North High School students participated in the Iowa High School Music Association All-State Chorus—one of the most prestigious honors a young musician can earn in our state. After months of preparation and a highly competitive audition process, these students joined nearly 600 of Iowa’s most dedicated singers for three days of intense rehearsals and inspiring music-making on Iowa State University's campus in Ames, Iowa. Their commitment, discipline, and artistry were on full display throughout the festival, and they represented North with exceptional musicianship and professionalism. We are incredibly proud of their hard work and the excellence they brought to the All-State stage.
