April 27th, 2026 Issue
Note from Principal Robertson
Dear Families,
The growing great school listening session is happening today at Roosevelt High School from 6 to 7:30pm. This is a critical step in our school board hear from our community about the priorities as we look as a community about how to right size our schools. Please consider attention this session. Our site council encourages you to attend as there are conversations that include K-8s, as well.
Finally, there is no school on Friday, May 1st due to the furlough day. Additionally, our last day of school is now June 5th. Please reach out if you have any questions regarding calendar changes, or if you need anything.
Hope your week is wonderful. Don't hesitate to reach out to us if you need anything at all. We're here for you!
Warmly,
Blake Robertson

Library Update from Ms. King!
In keeping with PPS and Dr. Armstrong's Lifting Literacy Campaign here in myQ3 Update from the Library!
District wide Q3 circulation rates tend to slide, but ours are actually up a bit from Q2, though down from a strong Q1 start.
Efforts to boost Q4 circulation and have a strong finish include:
4/5 grade- book trailers to share books with each other
3-5 grade- Genre passport roll out with prizes
6-8 grade- regular reminders to MS ELA teachers to come into the Library during their assigned times. They sometimes simply do not show up though I am prepared with book talks and themed displays.
Bike and Walk Routes on Tuesday and Thursday!

Important Reminders
Cell Phone Policy (reminder)
Our district and state have aligned to a cell phone free school day. At Astor, we've had this in place for several years. However, we'll now be collecting them from MS students each morning and returning them at the end of the day. You can learn more about all of this here.
In short, the policy is that students are warned by the staff daily to put their cell phones off and way in a class lockbox. If a student breaks this rule, then it goes to a violation, which results in the phone being confiscated and possibly a school based loss of privilege like lunch detention. The third time will be a violation that results in a school plan for the personal electronic.
Not that personal electronics include smart watches, and and other personal electronic device (game system, etc).
