From the Principal
It was a busy short week at CTES as we continue to celebrate learning, growth, and all of the hard work our students have accomplished this year! It is hard to believe we are entering our final weeks of the school year.
Next week, our sixth graders will attend their annual trip to KEEC. We are excited for them to have this opportunity to learn, explore, and create memories together as they prepare for their transition to middle school.
The following week will be full of celebrations and opportunities to come together as a school community! We will kick off Spirit Week and enjoy many end-of-year traditions, including our Ocreemo End-of-Testing Ice Cream Celebration, Lake Day, Arts Night, and our first Celebration of Learning on Friday, June 12th! We look forward to welcoming families as students share their growth and reflect on their learning journeys.
A few important dates to remember:
- Monday, June 15th at 6:00 PM – 6th Grade Celebration at Svec Park on the Proctorsville Green
- Wednesday, June 17th – Move Up Celebration 11:00 am and Last Day of School (12:00 PM dismissal)
As we enter these final days, we are grateful for the partnership of our families and community. We look forward to celebrating our students and ending the year with joy, pride, and CTES spirit!
With gratitude,
Emma Vastola
June 12th Celebration of Learning

Second Grade Students Become Published Authors! 📚
Our second graders recently became published authors through the Student Treasures Publishing program! Each student wrote and illustrated a page for our class book, making it a truly collaborative project. Along the way, they practiced their writing skills, shared their creativity, and learned what it takes to become an author.
The excitement on their faces when they saw the finished book was priceless! They were so proud to see their hard work turned into a real published book, and we are proud of all the effort, imagination, and teamwork they put into making it happen.
A special thank you to our PTG for their generous donation, which made it possible for every student to take home their very own copy of the book. Thanks to their support, each young author will have a keepsake to share with family and treasure for years to come.

5th and 6th Graders Explore History at Fort Ticonderoga
The 5th and 6th graders from Cavendish Town Elementary School recently enjoyed an unforgettable field trip to historic Fort Ticonderoga, generously arranged and funded by the Cavendish Historical Society. Margo Caufield and Bruce McEnaney from CHS joined the trip and enriched the experience by sharing additional historical information throughout the day.
Students explored the fort while taking in breathtaking views of Lake Champlain, Mount Defiance flying the American flag to the right of the fort, and Mount Independence to the left. Inside the fort, students visited exhibits including soldiers’ bunk rooms, ammunition chambers, and working areas where reenactors prepared beef stew and biscuits for lunch and sewed wool uniforms by hand.
One of the highlights of the day was learning about Revolutionary War muskets. Students watched three fully dressed reenactors demonstrate how soldiers loaded, aimed, and fired the weapons. The biggest excitement came when students themselves enlisted as soldiers for an hour-long military drill. They learned how to march together, why formation and discipline were critical for safety, and how teamwork played an important role in battle success.
With sunny skies, stunning scenery, and immersive hands-on experiences, the trip was truly a perfect day of learning and discovery. Students left wishing they had even more time to explore all that Fort Ticonderoga had to offer.
