Letter From Mr. Strube - Summer 2025
Dear Third Grade Parents,
Welcome to Strube’s Superheroes! I am thrilled to be your child’s teacher this year and can’t wait to embark on an exciting journey of learning, growth, and fun together. In our classroom, every student is a HERO—Helpful, Encouraging, Responsible, Optimistic, Empathetic, and Strong—and we’ll celebrate these traits as we build a positive and inclusive learning community.
With over 25 years of experience in education—including roles as a teacher, principal, and curriculum leader—I am passionate about creating a safe, engaging, and high-quality learning environment where every child feels valued and inspired. My mission is to foster a collaborative classroom where students take ownership of their learning while developing the social-emotional and academic skills they need to succeed.
This year, we’ll dive into an enriching curriculum designed to spark curiosity and critical thinking:
SEL (Social-Emotional Learning): Through Kimochis and Ninja Life Hacks, students will develop emotional intelligence, resilience, and teamwork skills during Morning Meetings and Closing Circles.
Literacy: Using CLKA Reading, we’ll strengthen comprehension, fluency, and a love for books.
Math: Eureka Squared (3rd Grade) will provide hands-on, problem-based learning to build strong mathematical foundations.
Science: Mystery Science will fuel wonder with hands-on experiments and real-world exploration.
Social Studies: Impact Social Studies will connect students to history, geography, and civic responsibility in meaningful ways.
I believe strong communication and partnership between school and home are key to your child’s success, so please don’t hesitate to reach out with questions or insights. Together, we’ll make this a super year!
Looking forward to meeting you at Back-to-School Night and working alongside you to make third grade unforgettable.
Heroically Yours,
Jon Strube

P.S. Be on the lookout for more details about our classroom routines, volunteer opportunities, and ways to support your young superhero at home!
If you haven't purchased school supplies yet, students will not need:
several items highlighted in red. These items will be supplied.
This a time to meet and greet new and familiar friends. You can meet your teacher, tour the building, drop off school supplies. There will be a DJ, free popsicles, food truck, and of course FUN. This is not a formal presentation, so you may come at anytime during the event. There will be a time for a presentation by the teacher, and that will happen for Back to School Night. I look forward to meeting everybody and to start this new school year off right. We are going to have a wonderful year of working and growing together.
Students make sure you get the superheroes kit and
scratch off to learn more about Mr. Strube!
Also, make your very own charm bracelet. You can pick these up
at the Back to School Bash.

Daily Positive Self Affirmations
Each day the students start off the school day looking in the mirror at themselves and saying a positive self affirmation. This will set a positive tone for the day.
Benefits Of Using Positive Affirmations For Kids
Children are like clay. You can mold them in the way you wish them to be. Positive affirmations compel the brain to think differently, which, in turn, brings about positive changes in the child. They provide encouragement, fostering a sense of belief and motivation within them. The following are a few benefits of using positive affirmations

for Back to School Night
I will share my professional background, teaching philosophy, classroom management, curriculum, communication, and more. It will be great to meet you! This is not a time for a personal conference about your child. However, if you would like one, I would be glad to schedule that with you. I will also post information after the meeting for those that were not able to attend.
If your family is experiencing difficulties at home, I would like to provide additional support at school. I understand that you are not always able to share details and that’s okay. If your child is coming to school after a difficult night, morning or weekend, please email or text me “Handle with Care”. Nothing else will be said or asked. This will let me know that your child may need extra time, patience, or help during the day.
Weekly Homework Packet
This is the weekly homework packet for August 4-8 Due on Friday, August 8
Soring Guide = Superhero Store Points
+=completed=500 SS Points; =partially completed=50 SSP Points;0 SSP=not finished
The Homework Packet is sent home each Monday, and it is due by Friday (signed) each week. Each week your child will complete the packet. The packet is made up of a spiral review of Reading, English, and Math skills. Each skill area is separated by day. Students should tun in packet with each day finished by Friday of each week. The students will have a quiz on the topics in the weekly packet. Please sign the reading log. If a child completes his/her homework and returns it, then he/she will earn Superhero Points to spend at the Superhero Store each month. The is scored for Superhero Store Points based on the completion percentage (see above). It is for the practice and family interaction. In a few weeks students will have spelling words to practice. When spelling starts they will get their words in the Homework Packet on Mondays. Students will have a pre-test on Wednesdays and the Final Test on Fridays. The pre-test test is on Wednesday, and if they get 100% correct on the pre-test, they will use that score and will not test on Friday. Remember you can complete the book borrowing sheet and your child will bring home some books at their reading level. The books can be returned at anytime during the week or on Fridays.

I was trained in Responsive Classroom recently. I will be implementing aspects of this evidence-based approach to teaching and discipline that focuses on engaging academics, positive community, effective management, and developmental awareness.
