Cunha Intermediate School
Week of September 22nd to September 26th
PowerSchool Grades vs. Schoology Grades
We wanted to clarify the difference between the grades you see in our two main systems to help you better understand your child's academic progress.
PowerSchool grades are like the traditional report cards you may remember receiving in the mail and represent a "snapshot in time." They show your child's grades at specific reporting periods (progress reports and report cards) and remain fixed until the next official reporting period.
Schoology grades, on the other hand, are "living grades" that update continuously as teachers enter new assignment scores. These grades reflect your child's most current academic standing and will change regularly as new work is completed and graded throughout the marking period.
This means that if you check both systems on the same day, you might see different grades. For the most up-to-date picture of your child's academic progress, Schoology will give you real-time information. If you have any questions about interpreting your child's grades or would like to discuss their academic progress, please don't hesitate to reach out.
Let's Talk Energy Drinks
We encourage you to have an important conversation with your middle schooler about energy drinks as we have seen an uptick in both students drinking energy drinks and inattention in the classroom. Recent studies show that nearly one-third of teens regularly consume these beverages, but the American Academy of Pediatrics strongly advises against energy drink use for children and adolescents.
Here's what you need to know: Energy drinks contain dangerously high levels of caffeine, often exceeding what's safe for developing bodies and brains. Your child is more vulnerable to caffeine's effects than adults, which can lead to sleep problems, increased anxiety and aggression, heart irregularities, and difficulty concentrating in school.
Start the conversation by asking what your child knows about energy drinks and whether friends are using them. Explain that while these drinks promise energy and focus, they often create more problems than they solve.
Remember: This isn't about restricting your child, but about protecting their developing body and brain during these crucial years.

Your student can speak 1-on-1 with a licensed therapist from the convenience of school or home, with your consent. Hazel Health provides high-quality care for all students — no matter their insurance or immigration status.
Hazel Health’s licensed therapists can help students build the tools and skills they need to succeed in and out of the classroom:
Improve communication and confidence
Build healthy friendships and relationships
Develop coping skills to manage emotions
Navigate academic stress and pressure
Hazel’s short-term online therapy program has been proven to reduce symptoms of common mental health concerns — and gives kids tools to cope with challenges they face at school and beyond. Students cannot receive care without your consent, so please take 5 minutes to sign up today at hazel.co.
