Dear Chelsea Families,
It is hard to believe that it is almost June, and the 24-25 school year is coming to a close! It has been our pleasure to see your children learn and grow this year. It is truly a privilege to be a part of your child’s educational journey.

A Note from Nurse Busch
A few reminders for the 2025-2026 School Year
- New medication forms are needed for any medication to be given here at school. Forms may be obtained online at FSD157c.org under parents, forms, then medical forms.
- Nurse appointments for 2025-2026 - For students that will need medications and health care plans at school for next year, please make an appointment to meet with the nurse to review everything and drop off paperwork. These appointments can be made through the front office. Coming in early will help you avoid the line on Meet and Greet day.
- Please make sure all contact information in PowerSchool is up to date.
- 5th graders entering 6th need the following.
- Illinois Dental Exam form
- Illinois Certificate of Child Health Examination with immunizations
I hope you have a wonderful summer with your kids, and I look forward to a successful school year for 2025-2026.
A Note from Our Librarian, Mrs. Schubert
Chelsea’s library is closing to complete inventory in June. During the 2024-2025 school year, there were 28,174 book checkouts in the library! That is nearly 3,000 more than last year!
Classes with the most checkouts per student this year were:
Third Grade – Mrs. Magana’s class averaged 37 books per student.
Fourth Grade – Mrs. Grage's homeroom class averaged 37 books per student.
Fifth Grade – Mrs. Michalski’s homeroom class averaged 35 books per student.
Overdue notices will be emailed home. Please be sure your student(s) returns books to the library. They can return books any day and bins will be available to return books to the school from June 3-6. Any books not returned by June 6 will be invoiced through MySchoolBucks.

PE with Mrs. Jaral, Mr. Klosowski, and Mr. Dykema
The school year has come to a close, and we had an absolute blast teaching your child in PE!
To wrap up the year, we revisited some of our favorite games from the past months. Students played scooter basketball, newcomb, basketball knockout, cricket, spikeball and blastball! We also enjoyed some fun outdoor activities to kick off the summer. The students practiced their underhand toss with games like bags and even worked on keeping score—skills that will come in handy at summer parties!
As summer begins, consider ways you and your child can stay active together in your community. Summer routines can be unpredictable, so try to set aside time each day for physical activity. Whether it’s a walk, a game of catch, or dancing around the living room, a little movement goes a long way. You’ll be surprised how great it makes both of you feel!
On behalf of the entire Chelsea PE team, we wish you and your family a fun, happy, and healthy summer. See you in the fall!

Stem with Ms. Jozaitis
The year in STEM was an exciting time to imagine, design, engineer, test and redesign! The expectation was to persevere, try something new, embrace new challenges, and try to become more independent and resourceful. I think the Chelsea students did just that. STEM doesn’t end just because school has. STEM is all around us. Look for a problem and try to create something that can improve it. Dig through your recycling bin to create something new from something used. Try some of the links on my website. Read about interesting inventors. Look at the inventions around you and ask yourself “How can I improve that?” Fifth graders, I wish you all the best as you move on to Hickory Creek. I am so proud of the engineers you’ve become this year! Have a great summer exploring and wondering. I look forward to seeing the rest of you again in the fall.
Things to collect for our Makerspace: Styrofoam, cardboard tubes, dowel rods, craft supplies, felt, lids and caps, wood scraps, etc.
Music with Mrs. Zito
Thanks so much for an awesome year in music! Third through fifth grade students have displayed knowledge of rhythms through playing, singing and composing. Fourth grade students added melodic notation and played the recorder with proper playing technique. All students showed effort and growth throughout their music quarter. Fifth grade students, good luck at Hickory Creek!!!
Have a fun summer everyone! Keep listening to music for fun this summer. Every so often, focus on what you like about the music that you are listening to and see if there is something you can relate to the concepts we discussed in music.
Art with Mrs. Maney
Lions, Tigers, and Bears—Oh My!
We’re on the Yellow Brick Road to sunshine and summer, and I can hardly believe the incredible amount of art that’s been created in the Tiger Studio this year—it’s truly unbelievable!
From Boot Camps to Exploration Days, and especially through our WOW Projects (Wonderful, Original Works of Art), our artists have poured their hearts into developing spectacular 2D and 3D masterpieces. Their creativity, effort, and curiosity have shined brightly in every piece.
Throughout each quarter, students have taken part in focused art boot camps where they learned new skills and techniques while also discovering how to care for their materials. They've explored:
🎨 Watercolor paints
🎨 Tempera cakes & sticks
🎨 Mixed media & collage
🎨 Perspective & depth
🎨 Self-portraits and more
We also had a blast with Task Parties, Sculpture Challenges, and Artist of the Week spotlights—there was always something new and exciting to discover.
To our 5th grade Tigers heading off to Hickory Creek next year: I’m incredibly proud of the artists you’ve become. I know you’ll rock it there just like you did here at Chelsea!
To our 3rd and 4th graders: I can’t wait to be back with you next year for even more fun, exploration, and creativity. Until then, don’t forget to keep creating over the summer!
With pride and paint-splattered joy,
Mrs. Maney
Spanish with Mrs. Smerz
This year has been full of awesome adventures!
This year, students learned Spanish through catchy music videos, games, and snippets of documentaries to gain an understanding of Hispanic culture.
Over the summer, students are encouraged to keep practicing their Spanish skills. A few things to try over the summer: watch your favorite movies & shows with Spanish subtitles or Spanish audio; check out bilingual books or your favorite children's books in Spanish; try a new Hispanic restaurant/ dish and practice using your Spanish to order; and make Post-it flashcards to label things in the house.
I cannot believe this school year's adventure is coming to an end, but I look forward to the spotlight of next year! To the (almost) 6th graders, muchisimas gracias for learning with me these last three years. I cannot believe how much you have grown since you first stepped into our Spanish class.
Thank you for all the laughs and I wish you the best next year!

Paperless Reporting in 2025 - 2026
Starting in the first quarter of the 2025-2026 school year, we will be joining HCMS in doing paperless reporting each quarter. We will no longer be printing paper report cards for students and sending them home at the end of each quarter. Instead, you will be able to access your child’s grades, and teacher comments, through PowerSchool. We will print one report card at the end of the fourth quarter that contains your child’s grades for all four quarters and send that home at the end of the year.
