Dear Families,
Solar Eclipse - April 8
On April 8, a solar eclipse will take place, and we're gearing up to integrate age-appropriate science lessons and activities to deepen our students' understanding of this fascinating phenomenon.
During this event, we'll be hosting educational sessions where students will delve into the science behind eclipses through interactive activities and informative videos. We're also thrilled to announce that the district has purchased safety glasses for all students and staff, ensuring that our students can safely observe the eclipse.
While we're enthusiastic about this educational opportunity, safety is our top priority. We kindly ask that you remind your child about the importance of using the provided safety glasses when observing the eclipse. These glasses are specifically designed to shield their eyes from the sun's harmful rays during the event.
Raise Craze - AES PTO sponsored Fundraiser - The PTO will be sponsoring a fundraiser beginning the month of April. The funds will not only allow for new programming and enrichment at AES, the fundraiser is powered by acts of kindness. Teachers and upcoming newsletters will include more information on how your child, your family and the community can get involved.
Warmest wishes,
Beth Gibney — Principal

Total solar Eclipse - April 8th
On April 8, 2024, a Total Solar Eclipse will darken New Hampshire's skies in one of nature's most awe-inspiring shows. For 3 minutes and 15 seconds, skies will dim, temperatures will drop, and the country will pause to watch as the Moon passes over the light of the Sun, completely blocking its light.
This event will be a massive opportunity for New Hampshire’s tourism industry. Northern New Hampshire will be in the eclipse’s Path of Totality, which offers viewers the most dramatic view of the eclipse. An influx of visitors will travel to the state in the hopes of getting this once-in-a-lifetime view of the sky. The last time New Hampshire was in the direct path of a Solar Eclipse was in 1959, and the next won’t be until 2079.
While Antrim is not in the path of totality by scientific definition, parts of northern New Hampshire are and in Antrim it will appear that way to us. Just after 2:00PM the eclipse will begin and continue through 4:30PM. We will experience nearly complete darkness leading up to and just after dismissal. At the website eclipse2024.org,on the Antrim Station, you can view a simulation of the eclipse.
The district has purchased solar eclipse glasses for all students and staff for the day of the eclipse and the school will be engaged in learning activities about the eclipse days leading up to and during the day of the eclipse.

Grade 2
This week, the second graders read “The Night Before Saint Patrick's Day” which is about children who create Leprechaun traps to find gold! The students worked with a partner to develop a written plan on how to create the best Leprechaun trap. They spent their free time creating their traps! Hopefully, we collect some gold!
In math, we sorted out all of the marshmallows in a box of Lucky Charms and graphed the amount of each marshmallow. And… we were able to enjoy the yummy marshmallows after we graphed our data!
Great work, Second Grade!

In classroom counseling lessons this week:
Kindergarten students began learning how to recognize bullying by asking some questions about mean behavior: Is it on purpose? “Is it mean? Is it one-sided? Does it happen over and over? Can the person who is being teased make it stop on their own? In future lessons, the students will learn about the necessity of reporting bullying and how to refuse bullying.
his week, First Grade students began learning about jobs. We discussed the tools and materials used by people in various jobs and played a job matching game.
Second, Third and Fourth-Grade students practiced coming up with solutions to problems and assessing the outcomes of various solutions: “Is it safe?” “ Is it respectful?”How will the people experiencing the problem feel about the solution(s)? Will it work?
Future classroom lessons in all of the grades will include career awareness, a review of strategies for emotional self-regulation, and, a bit later in the year, preparing for and dealing with change. As always, I welcome questions and communications from you, the families of our AES students. rgregg@conval.edu
