Quantum Family Connection

Hello Quantum Families,

On Friday, our fifth graders had the opportunity to attend a unique field trip called Biztown through Junior Achievement. Over the last several weeks, Mr. Benson provided lessons and hands-on activities in business, economics, and free enterprise. On Wednesday, students visited The McGrath Family JA BizTown, which is a 10,000-square-foot mini-city comprised of 21 life-sized San Diego businesses where students connected the lessons they learned in the classroom to ‘real-world’ applications. They ran a business, earned paychecks, opened bank accounts, paid taxes, voted, and were challenged to earn a profit in their business. What a cool, authentic learning experience for our 5th grade Quarks! It takes a lot of perseverance to get students ready for the Biztown experience, thank you Mr. Benson and Ms. Miramontes for getting our 5th graders ready!

We kick off our season for nonviolence this week with classroom lessons every Monday for the next 6 weeks. The Season for Nonviolence celebrates the lives of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Mahatma Gandhi, and their goal to make the world a more peaceful place. Students will have lessons every Monday during homeroom around Integrity, Appreciation, Respect, Kindness, Smile, and Believe. The season celebrates the lives and teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, and Mahatma Gandhi. We also launch the See Something, Say Something Program through student trainings this week. The button is already live on our website and we encourage everyone to Say Something to keep us all safe!

Trimester 2 ends February 28th and Trimester 2 Report Cards will be sent home on Friday, March 7th. Students in grades 6th-8th should check with their teachers for the last day to turn in work for Trimester 2. Any questions can be directed to teachers in Rooms. As Trimester 3 begins, it’s important to reinforce scholarly expectations with your Quark around homework and behavior. It’s also a great time to reinforce routines around bringing charged iPads to school daily.
