Girls Basketball Highlights!
Crushing Skyline and Prairie View
Neither opponent proved to be much of a match for our varsity team. In just 12 minutes played during the Skyline game, Sienna Williams posted a double-double scoring 19 points and grabbing 17 rebounds in Monarch's blow-out win with a final score of 53-15. The contributions to the 62-10 win over Prairie View were balanced throughout the team. Savannah Barthen scored 7 points to go with her 5 rebounds and Abigail Oneill had 8 points and snagged 7 rebounds.
Northfield
Just as the weather did not keep Northfield from showing up, our defense could not stop the sharp shooting of their top three players. Although there was a lot for the Monarch varsity squad to be proud of such as strong team play and significant improvement in running play sets, the Northfield girls had one of their best games and handed Monarch their second loss in league play with a final score of 40-52.
JV Updates
The Monarch girls' JV got their first win last Thursday when they trounced Prairie View on their home court. Those watching saw a strong team effort with huge strides from each player on the team. Addi Rivera led all players with a double-double scoring 14 points and snatching 12 rebounds.
The momentum from this win was not enough to overcome the play of Northfield's JV squad on Saturday. Unfortunately, Northfield swept our Monarch teams on Saturday, beating our JV team 29-50.
This week
Come cheer on our teams as they take on Frederick Tuesday and Broomfield, the top team in the Granite Peaks League, on Friday night. The tipoff for both games is 4:00 for the JV team and 5:30 for the varsity.
SKO YOKES!!!
Strong Week for Boys Basketball
The Boys Varsity Basketball team played one away game this past week on Tuesday, January 21st against Skyline in Longmont.
Boys Varsity got back in the win column with a decisive 77-53 victory. The boys scored an impressive 35 points in the third quarter to separate from a scrappy Skyline team. Logan Laverty led the team with 20 points, followed by Justin Myers with 16 points and Dylan Ernstrom with 13 points. Justin Myers lead the Yotes with 8 rebounds followed by Logan Laverty with 6 and Ryder Hutton with 5. Aden Clark paced the team with 4 assists.
It was a strong night for the program as JV and C teams also won against Skyline.
D team showed up at Centaurus Saturday morning bringing home a win against Centaurus and a 2 point loss against Holy Family.
All around it was a great week for the boys program. Gearing up for another big week at home when we play Frederick Tuesday, January 28th and Broomfield Friday, January 31st. If you haven't had a chance to come out to cheer on the boys, these are two of the last four remaining home games of the season! SKO Yotes!
Mark your calendars for Yotes Senior Night February 13th at home against Fairview!

Interested in Girls' Flag Football?
After seeing the success of girls’ flag football around our state, the Boulder Valley School District is open to establishing this fun sport for all girls within the district.
As part of the process, we need to compile a list of all interested athletes.
For those of you that have a student at a BVSD school who wants to play flag football, email jennamilot@gmail.com with the following information:
1- Name of athlete
2- School attending
3- Grade in school
4- Contact information
Please let your family and friends know about this movement. Remember, any student athlete within the district would be eligible to play.
