News from the Nest!
October 30, 2026
Dear Palmer River Elementary School Community,
What a fun and spirited week it has been at Palmer River Elementary School! The excitement was in the air all week long, but things really came to life as we wrapped up the week with our SPOOKTACULAR Spirit Day on Friday! Our students and staff enjoyed getting into the Halloween spirit, and one of the highlights was our annual staff costume contest! Every year, we think the costumes can't possibly get any better, and every year, our amazing staff proves us wrong! The creativity, enthusiasm, and laughter made for such a memorable day and a wonderful way to end the week!
As we head into the weekend, we wish all of our PRES families a SPOOKTACULAR Halloweekend! For those heading out to trick-or-treat, we hope you have a safe, fun-filled evening with plenty of sweet treats! And one final reminder: Daylight Saving Time ends this weekend, so don't forget to turn your clocks back one hour Saturday night at bedtime! Enjoy that extra hour of sleep! Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Kristine Kefor, Principal and Mrs. Cassey Monte, Assistant Principal

Dismissal Reminder to Parents/Guardians
As previously communicated in our August newsletter and again on October 9, all requests for changes to your child’s dismissal plan must be submitted by email (or phone in the event of an emergency) no later than 2:45 p.m.
We understand that the pick-up line by the gym may look long, but it moves quickly and is typically cleared by approximately 3:25 p.m. The 2:45 p.m. deadline is essential to allow our staff adequate time to communicate changes and ensure all students are dismissed safely and efficiently. Please plan accordingly and adhere to this deadline.
While we understand that emergencies can arise, last-minute changes cannot be guaranteed and will be handled on a case-by-case basis. Thank you for your attention to this important procedure and for helping us maintain a safe and organized dismissal process.
Wellness Committee Staff Appreciation Form
As part of the DR Wellness Committee’s commitment to fostering a positive school community, we are excited to reinstate our Gratitude Initiative! We invite students, staff, and families to share their appreciation for our incredible staff. We believe that expressing gratitude can uplift spirits and strengthen our connections.
To participate, simply fill out the Google Form to recognize a staff member who has made a positive impact on you or your family/child. Your submissions will be featured in a DR Wellness Committee Newsletter, celebrating the hard work and dedication of our staff.

🩺Medical Requirements for 3rd and 4th Grade Students
The Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the Palmer River Elementary School District mandate that each student have a current physical examination on file with the school nurse before entering 4th grade.
For third-grade students, physicals submitted during this school year will meet the requirements.
For fourth-grade students, please submit them as soon as possible.
❤️🩹Health Screenings
Annual health screenings have been completed across all grade levels. Make-up screenings and reevaluations were completed on Monday for students who were absent or required secondary screening. If your child requires additional follow-up, a notification letter will be sent home within the next few weeks.Thank you for your cooperation. Please feel free to contact the school office with any questions.
Chapstick
As these colder months approach, please send your child to school with Chapstick to keep in their backpacks.
Sick Day Guidelines
Should I keep my child home or send him/her to school?
Has a fever of 100.4 degrees or higher
Has been vomiting or has diarrhea
Has symptoms that keep your child from participating in school, such as:
Very tired or lack of appetite
Cough that he or she cannot control, sneezing often
Headache with body aches
Sore throat - A little sore throat is okay for school, but a bad sore throat could be strep throat, even if there is no fever. Other signs of strep throat in children include headache, stomach upset, vomiting or rash. Call your doctor if your child has these symptoms.
24 Hour Rule
FEVER: Keep your child home until his/her fever has been gone WITHOUT medicine for 24 hours. Returning to school too soon may slow recovery and make others sick.
VOMITING OR DIARRHEA: Keep your child home for 24 hours after the last time he/she vomited or had diarrhea.
ANTIBIOTICS: Keep your child home until 24 hours after the FIRST dose of antibiotics
Head Cold Notice: Please note that head colds can be contagious for at least 48 hours if they are sneezing or coughing without properly covering their mouth or washing their hands. Many children come to school with head colds and unintentionally pass the sickness to classmates. Please help protect our school community by keeping your child home while they are most sick.
