Hard work at rehearsal for 101 Dalmations
zoom_out_map

Dear Salem Elementary Families,

Time truly flies when we’re learning and growing together! Faculty and staff at SES continue to collaborate to ensure students develop the skills necessary to succeed by making learning relevant and engaging. Life in our 21st-century society requires learning in many areas—cognitive, social, emotional, and physical—in other words, education for the whole child. Students can be seen reading, writing, and working collaboratively to solve problems in their classrooms around the building. They continue to grow and progress as they engage with the content across the curriculum. #EveryStudentFutureReady

HMH Into Reading and HMH Into Math: This year marks our third year with the HMH Into Reading program and our second year implementing HMH Into Math. Both programs have enriched our curriculum, enhancing literacy and numeracy skills across all grade levels.

State Assessments Prep for Grades 3-6: As state assessments approach, we're enhancing our focus on keyboarding skills alongside the foundational abilities crucial for our students' success during testing. We encourage families to support their children at home by practicing these skills and discussing the importance of these assessments.

Grade 6 Musical: 101 Dalmatians Kids: We are excited to announce that our talented Grade 6 students, along with their dedicated advisors, will proudly present the musical "101 Dalmatians Kids" on March 7 and 8 at 7:00 PM. This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to showcase their hard work and creativity! Tickets will be sold at the door, so come out and support our young performers!

The journey ahead is filled with opportunities for growth, learning, and achievement. With our dedicated staff, supportive families, and amazing students, there's no limit to what we can accomplish. Let's continue to work together, embrace challenges, and celebrate successes as we make this school year truly remarkable.

Thank you once again for your continued support and partnership!

Sincerely,

Damian Switzer

Book Bag Program

The "School's Cool" book bag program is an exciting initiative that has been brought back for our PreK and kindergarten students at SES! This program is really important because it helps young learners develop a love for reading and improves their literacy skills.

Here's how the program works: on the first school day of each month, every PreK and K student receives a special book bag filled with 10 new books to explore. These bags are designed to be fun and engaging, so children can enjoy reading stories and learning together with their families. At the end of the month, students return the bag and exchange it for a new one, keeping the reading adventure fresh and exciting!

The importance of this program can’t be overstated. Reading regularly helps children improve their vocabulary, comprehension, and critical thinking skills. Plus, it encourages bonding time between parents, siblings, and little ones as they share stories together.

We want to give a big thanks to Mrs. Fronhofer, Mrs. Carr, and Mrs. Stoya for coordinating this wonderful program! Their hard work ensures that every child has access to quality books and the chance to discover the joy of reading. The "School's Cool" program is not just about books—it's about building a foundation for lifelong learning and helping our students thrive!

Monthly Character Trait for March: PERSEVERANCE

Perseverance is a big word that means not giving up, even when something is really hard. It’s about sticking with a task and trying your best until you succeed, no matter how many times you might stumble or face challenges.

Imagine you're trying to ride a bike for the first time. At first, you might fall a few times, but instead of quitting, you keep getting back up, shake it off, and try again. That’s perseverance!

Here are a few ways you can show perseverance in your daily life:

  1. Schoolwork: If you get a tough math problem, instead of giving up, you can ask for help from a teacher or a friend, practice a little more, and keep working until you solve it.

  2. Sports: When you’re practicing a sport and you don’t do as well as you hoped, keep practicing. With time, effort, and a positive attitude, you’ll improve!

  3. Learning Something New: Whether it's playing an instrument, drawing, or baking, sometimes it can be hard to learn something new. If your first attempt doesn’t go well, try again and learn from your mistakes!

  4. Friendships: Sometimes friends may have disagreements. Instead of giving up on the friendship, talk it out, listen to each other, and work together to solve the problem.

Remember, persistence is key! When you practice perseverance, you learn to stay strong and keep trying, even when things get tough. It helps you grow and become better at all the things you love!
