This event promises to be a night of incredible music, showcasing the talents of our young musicians. Don't miss this remarkable display of our district's musical excellence!
Education Foundation Annual Auction
The Education Foundation for the Berea City School District will host its 24th Annual Auction virtually this year, with online kickoff and closing events on March 10th and 14th. The Foundation has served Middleburg Heights, Brook Park, and Berea students since 1996. Proceeds from the Annual Auction enable us to continue providing unique classroom opportunities that would not otherwise be possible for our students as well ensuring we can diligently manage scholarship and grant funds.
The success of this event is largely due to our Community Partners and Patrons, who lend their names in support of our mission and provide our organization with financial backing, as well as our donors and bidders.
As a proud and involved individual who supports the BCSD, please consider attending AND becoming a patron of the 2024 Education Foundation Auction as a means to show your support for educational enrichment.
"Love Makes the World Go Round": A Global Valentine's Project
Miss Bohrer's second grade class at Brook Park Elementary School embarked on a Valentine's Day mission titled "Love Makes the World Go Round," aiming to collect postcards, special items, or Valentines from all 50 U.S. states. The initiative, designed to enrich the students' learning about the diverse cultures and histories across the country, quickly surpassed its original goal, drawing contributions from not only across the United States but also around the world, including the UK, South Korea, and several U.S. states like Hawaii and Texas.
The project's global reach was unexpected but warmly welcomed, as it not only brought the class closer to their goal but also introduced them to international cultures and stories. The overwhelming support from both domestic and international participants brought joy and excitement to the classroom, demonstrating the project's impact far beyond its educational intent.
Miss Bohrer and her class have expressed deep gratitude for the widespread participation that turned their educational project into a global exchange of love and learning. The success of "Love Makes the World Go Round" highlights the power of community and the meaningful connections that can be forged through simple acts of sharing and kindness. This project has not only taught students about geography and culture but also about the universal values of love and unity, making it a truly enriching experience for everyone involved.

Berea City School District Launches "Grow Your Own" College Scholarship Program
Dr. Tiffany Stropko, Director of Personnel and Employee Relations, spent time with high school students during a recent Lunch and Learn session to share more information about the new "Grow Your Own" College Scholarship opportunity. Aimed at fostering the next generation of educators, the program offers scholarships of up to $7,500 annually to students majoring in education. Additionally, students can secure their future with a guaranteed teaching position in the district upon completing their degree, provided they commit to a 4-year teaching tenure.
Our goal is to discover our "Difference Makers" who are already within our schools!
From Seeds to Success: BMMS Garden Club is Inspiring Growth
The BMMS Garden Club offers a fun environment where students learn about plants, assist in their growth, and participate in creative projects together. It emphasizes teamwork and enjoying time with friends in the garden. The club recently welcomed its largest group of students to date!
The club has made some exciting developments, including relocating their greenhouse to the connector area where it is expected to flourish even more. A particularly exciting moment was witnessing the first onion shoots emerge from the soil, indicating the garden's promising future. The club's initiatives were significantly enhanced by a generous donation of flower seeds from Floret Farms.
Students have been engaged in planting succulents in planters adorned with decorative gravel and moss. Meanwhile, other students have been busy sowing a diverse array of seeds, including cabbage, broccoli, thyme, rosemary, chrysanthemums, figwort, lace flowers, and feverfew. They have successfully planted over 100 flowers and vegetables!
Special thanks go to Mr. Pearl and everyone involved in making this club available to students. Keep an eye out for the Garden Club as they highlight their efforts during the district's School Showcase in May!

Portrait to Practice
The Portrait of a Titan is a collective vision that articulates aspirations for ALL of our students. The Portrait identifies six key competencies that every student in the Berea City School District should possess by the time they graduate. These competencies are nurtured at every grade level. They are adaptable, communicator, critical thinker, empathetic, innovative, and leader. Our educators are inspiring students to cultivate these essential skills.
6th Grade Entrepreneurs Shine in eSTEAM Innovations' Food Truck Wars Competition
As part of their project, these young entrepreneurs were tasked with creating a compelling pitch to capture the attention and interest of their peers and school staff. They had to effectively communicate the concept of their food truck, the uniqueness of their offerings, and the value of their menu items.
Students and staff were given Mrs. Sloat "Sloat Bucks" to "tip" their favorite trucks. The trucks that generated the most business were declared the winners of the Food Truck Wars!

The Berea Board of Education holds regular community conversations to give the public access to board members outside of the formal public participation setting of a meeting. Residents will have the opportunity to meet and discuss any concerns they may have with two board members during a 30 minute time-slot set aside prior to each regular scheduled Board of Education meeting. The goal of this effort is to more effectively connect with the public and learn more about the community.
