Safety Updates and Protocols
Parent Drop-off and Parent Pick-up
Thank you for your attention to safety when entering and exiting our Door 1 and Door 8 entrances. We have a few reminders to insure that all our students and community members are safe:
- Arrival Time: 9:15am-9:28am (school starts at 9:30am) Please do not drop-off earlier than that! There is no supervision guaranteed until 9:15am and we do not want any unfortunate accidents occurring due to early drop-offs. **Breakfast is the exception and that begins at 9:07am**
- Arrival Practices: Please do NOT park on 126th Ave NE between Polk St. and 126th Lane NE and do NOT drop-off your child there as well. This area is designated for our school buses and community traffic. You may park on Polk Street north of 126th Ave NE or on 126th Lane NE east of 126th Ave NE. **map attached**
E-Bikes and motorized Scooters
Minnesota state law places a 15-year-old minimum age restriction for legal operation of any electric-assisted bicycle, commonly called E-Bikes. In addition, Anoka-Hennepin places restrictions regarding the operation of these vehicles and motorized scooters and e-motos on school property.
District guidelines: In order to ensure safety around school, Anoka-Hennepin Schools prohibits the use of E-bikes, e-motos and motorized scooters on elementary and middle school property during the school day and immediately before and after school. School property includes sidewalks, trails, fields, parking lots and roadways.
E-Bike basics: E-Bikes come in three categories and can reach speeds of between 20 and 28 mph. While wearing a helmet is recommended, it is not required by state law. Riders must be age 15 or older and must also obey any local guidelines put in place by other jurisdictions.
With the age restriction, students in middle school or younger are not legally authorized to operate these forms of transportation. The School District does not have restrictions regarding the use of standard bicycles on school property.
Go deeper: Review important information from area law enforcement partners regarding the operation of these forms of transportation on city streets and trails. Anoka County, Anoka, Blaine, Ramsey, Brooklyn Park, Champlin and Dayton.
Cafeteria/Lunchroom Protocols
Just a few reminders as we continue to learn the routines in our cafeteria. Parents, we are asking you to help with these:
- NO sharing food! This is a must! We have many students with allergies, dietary restrictions, and parents that expect that their child is eating what is either served by the school or what is sent from their home.
- No Pop/Energy Drinks/Caffeinated Drinks: We ask that these stay at home! The amount of sugar and caffeine in these drinks do not adhere with our district health guidelines.
- Visitors at Lunch: we invite you to your child's lunch starting the week of September 28. We have just a couple reminders that go along with this:
NO sharing food with others students (even if you know your child's friends)
Thank you for helping us all have a safe experience at Johnsville!
