Hornet Families,

I hope your summer is off to a wonderful start. As I write this final newsletter, I realize this will be my last communication as principal of Northtown. Serving this community over the past three years has been one of the greatest honors of my career. It has been a privilege to partner with students, families, staff, and community members to help make Northtown a place where students can learn, grow, and thrive.

As I transition into a new role, I do so knowing the Hive is in great hands. Dr. Green is an outstanding leader who is deeply committed to students, staff, and families. I am confident he will continue to build on the academic success of our school while fostering a positive, safe, and supportive culture for everyone who walks through our doors.

Included in this newsletter is our annual school scorecard. Each year, we establish measurable goals to help guide our work and monitor our progress. These metrics include attendance, College and Career Readiness, EOC participation, graduation outcomes, and student access to real-world learning experiences. I am incredibly proud to say that our students, staff, and families exceeded expectations in many of these areas. The results reflect the hard work, dedication, and partnership that make Northtown such a special place.

I also want to recognize our student-athletes for finishing the year strong. This past weekend, our track and field team represented Northtown exceptionally well at the state championships. Congratulations to Yaya Newton, State Champion in the Girls High Jump, and Latayvian Woods-Smith, State Champion in the Boys 110-Meter Hurdles. We are incredibly proud of their accomplishments and grateful to the coaches who have supported them throughout their journey. (Pictures included below.)

Summer school is now underway. If you have any questions regarding summer programming, please contact Mrs. Nichole Unsell. Students attending summer school have received information through email and postal mail. While the school year has ended, the summer months remain busy with learning opportunities, athletic camps, and preparations for the upcoming school year. Mr. Minnix, our Athletic Director, will continue to communicate important dates, expectations, and opportunities for students participating in athletics.

As for me, I will still be around periodically throughout the month of June. If you need to reach me, email will be the best method of communication. While I am excited for the next chapter of my professional journey, I will always be grateful for my time at Northtown and the relationships built within this community.

Thank you for trusting me with your students. Thank you for your support, your partnership, and your belief in the work we do on behalf of young people. Together, we have celebrated successes, overcome challenges, and continued to raise the bar for what is possible for our students.

Onward and upward, Hornets. Have a safe, restful, and wonderful summer.

Dr. Keith Jones

IMPORTANT: CHANGES TO MSHSAA PHYSICAL EXAM REQUIREMENTS

The Missouri State High School Activities Association now allows a physical examination by a medical professional to be valid for a duration of two years (730 days) from date of issue listed on the physical. However, some physicians continue to practice a 1-year policy. Make sure that you are aware of what your physician marks for your student’s participation approval (1 year or 2 year).

If you have any questions, please contact the Northtown's Activities Office at 816-321-6179.

Senior - MCV Vaccine

The state of Missouri requires that all 12th graders have two doses of MCV, unless the first dose was administered at 16 years of age or older, in which case only one dose is required. AT LEAST ONE DOSE MUST BE GIVEN ON OR AFTER 16 YEARS OF AGE. Local health departments are OPEN and taking appointments or you may also schedule an appointment with your doctor. Please make sure you are up to date by the first day of school, August 19th, or you will be excluded from school until we have a record of receiving immunization provided. You may email or drop off a copy of your shot record to the school nurses. Please call with any questions or concerns.
