While learning about the Pura Belpre Book Award, student groups created Collaborative Monsters, inspired by the Peruvian folklore creatures featured in the Pura Belpre 2024 Honor Award book, Benita and the Night Creatures.

Reading from the year's South Carolina Picture Book Award nominee list is an activity the children look forward to each year, culminating with voting for their favorite in the spring.

Students practiced Powwow dancing while learning about Indigenous Culture.

Students worked on their reading fluency during the library's popular flashlight reading activity.

Students learned about the life cycle of pumpkins through reading Pumpkin Jack and observing the decomposition of our own pumpkin, aptly named Jack.

Congratulations to student winners Kenia and Jaime, who tied in the library's Candy Corn Guessing Game, earning a free book coupon from the school's upcoming book fair.

Students created cards of gratitude for the local military during Veterans Day.

Students perused a variety of our library's nonfiction ocean animal books during Musical Chairs Book Tasting, with a little help from Title One Facilitator, Ms. Faulkner, who joined in on the action.

During Thanksgiving, students practiced their teamwork skills in a STEM table-building challenge inspired by the book, Our Table (image: Amazon).

Our school's 5th-grade Battle of the Books team continues to work through the 10-book reading list, meeting weekly in preparation for the district's spring competition. Teammates pictured below received a Book Brag Tag for the book they recently completed - way to go, readers!
