Chester Ronning School
February 2026
Principal's Message
Hello again, Chester Ronning School Community!
February has arrived, and we have been enjoying the longer hours of sunlight and the mild temperatures at CRS. Besides marking the second half of the school year, February is Kindness Month at CRS, culminating with Pink Shirt Day on Wednesday, February 25. Valentine's themed artwork is beginning to decorate our hallways and students have been learning about the Circle of Courage dimensions of Belonging and Independence, which focus on being kind and making good choices at school and in our communities.
February is also Black History Month, which provides us with an opportunity to recognize people of African descent and to honour the legacy of Black people in our communities. If you haven't already, consider visiting the Government of Canada website and the Historica Canada website among others for more information about Black History Month in Alberta and across Canada.
We are also planning to hold a Kindergarten Open House for our program on Wednesday, February 18. Kindergarten enrolment is one of the more challenging things for us to project each year, especially since we have not had a pre-K program since moving into the current school building. In addition to providing an opportunity for potential CRS families to engage with us, we are also hopeful that having an open house will help to build a more complete picture about the number of students planning to join our school for 2026-2027. There will be opportunities during the day and after school for families of incoming Kindergarten students to visit the school and talk to teachers about what learning looks like in Kindergarten at CRS. Look for the event poster in this newsletter for more details and please help us to spread the word.
Lastly, I want to take this opportunity to acknowledge several recent efforts of our staff members to provide extra-curricular opportunities for CRS students. Mme Lunty has been running a weekly lunchtime Piano Club for music-loving students and is planning our school's participation in the Camrose & District Music Festival, Which takes place in April. Mme Lunty also organized our school's participation in the Running Room Indoor Games on January 22, when she and Mr. Fox took a number of CRS participants and one of our teams qualified for the finals - A CRS first! Mr. Fox and parents/guardians will be going to cheer on this team on Saturday, February 14th. Mr. Pederson and Mr. Fox are currently in the middle of Gr. 4 and Gr. 5 basketball seasons, with the tournament scheduled for Saturday, February 21. As well, Mrs. Kroetch has been running a Gr. 4 and 5 leadership group, to provide an opportunity for student voice and to develop leadership skills. Leadership students meet each week and have been spearheading school spirit days, events, and they have been helping with morning announcements each day. I'm sure that I'm missing other extra-curricular activities, but kudos to our team of educators for the hard work and extra time they put into providing these kinds of opportunities for our students!
Yours in Education,
Reid Lansing

Music 4 / 5 - Recorders
It is almost that time of year when we will be starting a recorder unit in Grade 4/5 Music class. Recorders are on the class supply lists from the beginning of the year. If your student is in Grade 4 or 5 and doesn't have a recorder yet, you can find beginner recorders available in most music stores or online (They can also be found locally downtown at the music store Long & McQuade in Camrose). If you have any questions about recorders or aren't able to find a recorder, please reach out and let me know. Mme Lunty
Grade 5 Bottle Donation
We will be fundraising for our Grade 5 farewell activities. The Camrose Bottle Depot now has a "Chester Ronning" account set up. It would be greatly appreciated if anyone who wishes to donate their bottles to this account to help towards our fundraising efforts! 100% of these funds will go towards the year-end Grade 5 celebrations.
Accidents, weather, and spills happen! Please send a spare change of clothes with your child every day to keep in their backpack or locker. If they need a change of clothes and don't have an alternative, we will have to call home for parents to bring a new set.
Mabels Label
How many items did your child lose this year? With this win-win solution, you can create custom labels for your child's items (boots, jackets, lunch kits, etc.) while supporting Chester Ronning's fundraising efforts that go toward supporting our students!
