New Social Studies Curriculum

District 41 is pleased to announce that National Geographic/Cengage will be the new social studies core curricular resource at Hadley Junior High, starting in the 2025-2026 school year!

Over the past year, a team of teachers, administrators, and specialists carefully reviewed different resources, piloting two resources, TCI and National Geographic. After gathering feedback from teachers, parents, and students, National Geographic was the clear favorite.

To ensure a smooth transition, our teachers will take part in professional development, including a half-day training on May 9, 2025, plus additional learning opportunities with National Geographic.

“We are excited about this next step in making social studies even more engaging for our students,” said Assistant Superintendent for Teaching, Learning and Accountability Dr. Kris Webster. “Stay tuned for information about the K-5 social studies review in the May District Digest.”

Hadley Students Experience UIC Band and Orchestra Festival

The Hadley Jr. High 8th Grade Band experienced a day filled with enriching activities at the University of Illinois at Chicago Band and Orchestra Festival. Students enjoyed an engaging campus tour led by a student and had the opportunity to enjoy dining at the Student Center East food court.

The impressive 73-member ensemble showcased their talent in front of a panel of esteemed collegiate adjudicators: Dr. Serena Weren of The University of Illinois at Chicago, Dr. Frederick Lowe of Loyola University, and Dr. Erica Neidlinger of DePaul University. Following their performance, the ensemble benefitted from valuable feedback during a clinic session with Dr. Neidlinger, an Associate Professor and Wind Symphony conductor at DePaul University.

Hadley Band Directors Samantha Tribley and Chris Cooper, along with Elmhurst University Student Teacher Sebastian Martinez, express their gratitude to the Hadley administration for their continued support, as well as to the parent chaperones who generously dedicated their time and effort to ensure the success of this memorable day. Congratulations to the 8th Grade Band!

Churchill Reads and Leads

Churchill has been celebrating reading in many new ways with Churchill Reads and Leads. Students earn a "Tale Tag" backpack tag in different colors for specific reading activities: summer reading, most improved reader, student who models strong reading, and a 40 Day Reading Adventure participant. The tags are created with the Glen Ellyn Public Library Workshop's Laser Engraver.

Students have also been working on building reading stamina with Legos. Each class has a goal to reach 1,350 total minutes of independent reading for each student through March. While students are practicing building stamina, they earn next step directions to build a Lego set, purchased by our PTA. When the school meets their goal, every student and staff member will receive a Timmy Timberwolf Tag created on the 3D printer.

Also, Mini March Madness culminated with an all school assembly where a winning book was revealed. This year the Mini March Madness was added to the PTA's sponsored presentation celebrating literacy and magic!

Rock Your Socks

District 41 is participating in Rock Your Socks for World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD), March 21. On March 21st every year, District 41 staff rock funky or mismatched socks to celebrate everyone’s differences that make all who we are. Thank you to parent and Board member Jason Loebach for coordinating and donating socks to staff!

As part of
Rock Your Socks, sock collection bins have been placed at all of our schools. We are collecting new, unused socks that will then be donated to the People's Resource Center.
