BUSES

The buses will be leaving Connors at 9:00 am and will return at approximately 1:00 pm.

EATING SCHEDULE

Please note that students will not be able to eat lunch in the theater or on the buses and it is too cold to eat lunch outside the theater. Therefore, we will be adjusting our snack and lunch schedules to accomodate the theater showtime and prevent hungry tummies.

  • Breakfast: All children should have a good breakfast at home prior to coming to school or eat breakfast in our cafeteria from 7:45-8:05 am.
  • Snack #1: Parents should pack a typical healthy daily snack for their child. Students will eat their snack with their class in the morning at 8:50 am, prior to leaving on the bus.
  • Snack #2: Our Connors PTO will provide each student with a bag of GOLDFISH and a disposable water bottle for the trip. Students will eat their goldfish snack and drink their water bottle during the Q & A session at approximately 11:30 am. We have dairy free pretzels for students who are allergic to dairy and who cannot have the goldfish.
  • Lunch: Students will eat lunch when they arrive back at Connors at approximately 1:00 pm. This is a later lunch than usual which is why students are eating two snacks during the day. There are no lunch tables at the theater and it is too cold to eat outside at the theater, so children will eat their lunch at Connors when they return from the trip. On the day of your child's trip, children can eat the To Go "Field Trip School Lunch" which will be either a turkey and cheese sandwich or a sunbutter and jelly sandwich. You may also choose to bring a lunch from home if you prefer. Hot Cafeteria food will not be served on the day of your child's trip. Some classes will be scheduled to eat their lunch in the cafeteria and some classes will eat their lunch in their homeroom classrooms.

CHAPERONES

Would you be interested in chaperoning the Carmela Full of Wishes Theater Field Trip? If so, please be reminded that all parent chaperones will need to:

  • Provide their own transportation.
  • Cover all costs of the field trip including their travel and entrance tickets
  • Stay with their assigned group and are not permitted to take their child off on their own
  • Meet us at the destination- Parents/Guardians may follow the bus but from their own vehicle. If guardians choose to follow the bus from their own car, students must ride the bus and are not permitted to ride with their guardians.

CARMELA FULL OF WISHES

Adapted by Alvaro Saar Rios

From the book by Matt de la Peña, Illustrated by Christian Robinson.

Published by G.P. Putnam’s Sons Books for Young Reader

"It’s Carmela’s birthday, and she’s finally old enough to accompany her big brother on his errands. On their way to the laundromat, past fields of what her Mamí calls “flores de cempazuchitl”, Carmela finds a puffy white dandelion to blow, but her brother asks “Did you even make a wish?” The Newbery award-winning team behind Last Stop on Market Street portrays Carmela’s migrant

community as a vibrant place of possibility. Full of touching and funny fantasies, Carmela must decide what her deepest wish is and she must do it before her birthday is over."
