A Note from the Principal
I can't believe September is almost here! It has been so nice meeting families, old and new at the drop-off, pick-up lane and times when you are in the building. I hope to meet many more of you!
We are continuing to get adjusted to the new school year and are having a great time getting to know each other! I am always so excited when I have mastered each child's name and I think I am getting pretty close now!
These first weeks of school we continue to practice a lot of routines and expectations to help support and promote a positive learning environment for all. Being ready to learn allows us to dig into our learning and enjoy the many experiences we have ahead of us with success! It's important stuff! We practice walking in the hallway peacefully in order to respect that other classrooms are learning. In our classrooms we practice showing our teacher that we are ready to learn with our eyes, ears and bodies, practice respectful talk and turn taking and showing kindness to others. Your help reinforcing these positive expectations is not only helpful, but supports our effort to provide an environment that respects your child and others.
We are thankful for your partnership!
Respectfully,
Mrs. Heather Wendelin, Principal

WIN Time
This year Crete Elementary will be providing WIN time for all students.
What is W.I.N. Time?
W.I.N. is an acronym for WHAT I NEED, and is an essential component to our systematic MTSS Process. W.I.N. time is built into our master schedule and is used for students who need intervention or enrichment within a grade level specific domain. We will use system-wide screening data in the fall, winter, and spring to determine the primary content/domain for which each grade level will focus on. Primarily the focus areas will be reading and math. It will be skill based and will be delivered during small group instruction that will follow the continuum of essential skills.
Who will provide W.I.N. services?
We have two W.I.N. times built into our day. The first W.I.N. time is for all of the students in the grade level. During this time, students will be grouped based on their literacy needs. Grade level teachers will work with students during this time.
During the second W.I.N., students needing special services - English Language Learners, Special Education, and Title - will receive those services. Classroom teachers will also be working with students during this time in their classroom. Students can be working on literacy or math skills during this time.
Upcoming Events
At Crete Elementary School, we use a variety of assessments to gather relevant information about student performance or progress and to make decisions about students' instructional needs. This fall we will be administering Dibels and MAPS testing to all kindergarten through 2nd graders.
The following dates are when you can expect your child to be administered the assessments.
Dibels:
Kindergarten: September 6th - 15th
1st and 2nd grade: August 28th - September 15th
MAPS:
Kindergarten through 2nd grade: August 28th - September 15th
Once your student’s testing is complete, we will review the data and determine what instructional needs your student has and work to make sure we meet those needs. Your student’s assessment results will be available at parent teacher conferences, or mailed to you at a later date.
In order for you to have a full understanding of the assessment, please visit the Crete Public Schools website, under the Teaching and Learning and Assessment page. Click here to take you directly to the website for more information.
If you have any questions, please reach out to your student’s teacher or building administrator.
At Crete Elementary we provide a SAFE community, build RELATIONSHIPS and ENGAGE students in PURPOSEFUL learning.
