Knight's Update
August 20th
A message from Mr. Marchetti:
Awesome First FULL Week!!
Parents, I want to let you know that our Knights are doing a great job getting back into the swing of things this year.
I know student drop off has been an adjustment and I appreciate everyone continuing to work with us as we continue to streamline the process. Please continue to pay attention to staff directions as we finetune this process.
Over the next couple of weeks, SHS will be holding multiple Fire Drills and Lockdown Drills as required at the start of the new school year. Announcements are made to our students in advance of the drill so there are no misunderstandings.
This week, our students received information pertaining to the Code of Conduct/Student in Good Standing and Standard Response Protocol. This information is also being shared with you in this edition of the Knight's Update. Please take a moment to look over this information and reach out to your child's Assistant Principal if you have any questions.
Announcements
Club Rush is Coming!!
Attention Students:
This Friday we will be holding our annual SHS Club Rush during 2nd block. Plan on seeing all the different clubs and activities you can get involved in while at SHS. We hope you find a group to get involved with!
Chronic Absenteeism
Attention Students and Parents:
SHS preliminary state accreditation report, which usually is final in September or October, has us below the State standard in meeting VDOE benchmarks in school attendance. Last year, over 33% of our students were absent 10% of the year, or more than 18 days. For our VDOE accreditation It doesn’t matter if a student absence is excused or unexcused, all that matters is that they are absent. Over 450 of our students missed 18 or more school days last year.
To improve on that this academic year, we are introducing "Student in Good Standing" criteria. Students will learn about this new initiative during their Grade Level Meetings later this week. The final touches are being put into that presentation, but all details will be shared with the community in the next Knight's Update.
Parking and Drop Off Information
Still Don't Have a Parking Pass?
If you are driving to school and have not purchased your parking pass please do so quickly. Student drivers parking without a pass will have a $40 fine assessed to their student account. Remember, you will need to be debt free to purchase your Homecoming tickets.
Parking Pass Info
Student parking passes will be on sale for $40. Students must be clear of all debts, including their class dues for 2023-2024. (senior dues $25, junior dues $15)
- Because of bookkeeping rules, there must be a separate Master Receipt for each account collecting money. That means that if you are paying for dues and a parking permit, you must have 2 separate payments, ie: 2 checks, a check for one, and cash for another.
- Students must complete and print the current application form. They should bring the completed form, a copy of the registration, and a copy of his/her driver’s license along with all fees at the time of purchase. After August 8th, class dues must be paid to the grade-level sponsor.
- Parking passes will be on sale during all lunch shifts
Updated Student Parking and Student Drop Off Information
Attention Parents:
Student drop off this year will be in the loop/circle located in the front of the building. Please DO NOT drop off on the side of the building like in past years. When dropping students off in the circle, please use the entire circle and do not stop at the doors.
Attention Student Drivers:
Student parking this year this year will be on the side of the building. This lot can be accessed by the traffic light at the 208 and Post Oak Rd intersection. Do not park in the front of the building.
Arriving after 7:35
Any students arriving after 7:35 need to come in through the main office. The door leading in from the student parking lot will be closed at 7:35 and students will need to walk to the front of the building.
